Ronald “Ron” John Hoag, age 83, of rural Oakland, Minnesota, passed away on Friday, March 6, 2026, at his home. Ron was born on July 23, 1942, in Muscatine, Iowa. He was the oldest son of John and Esther (Beatty) Hoag. In 1950, Ron and his family moved to a farm south of Austin, where he attended Excelsior Country School, now located at the Austin Mower County Fairgrounds. Ron graduated from Austin High School in 1960. In 1961 and 1962, he studied electronics at Austin Riverside Technical College. In 1962 and 1963, Ron worked for Control Data in Minneapolis, Minnesota and in Long Beach, California. In 1963, he started working for George A. Hormel in Austin, Minnesota as an engineer. He retired after 38 years. Ron accepted Christ as his personal Savior at the age of 11 years old at First Baptist Church in Austin, Minnesota. Ron was united in marriage to Patricia Ann Lovlein on April 18, 1964. They were married at First Baptist Church in Austin, Minnesota. To this union they had three children, Michael, Jeffrey, and Debra. The couple lived in Austin for nine years then moved to a farm near Oakland, Minnesota in 1973. They raised Black Angus cattle, and farmed the land, raising corn and soybeans.
Ron and Pat went on many memorable trips together throughout their life. They rafted the Grand Canyon, witnessed polar bears and the Northern Lights in Churchill, Canada and Alaska. Through caravan tours, they visited Mexico, Guatemala, Costa Rica, and toured the Panama Canal. They also cherished family ski trips in Minnesota and Colorado. For the past 20 years they enjoyed their winters in Kauai.
Ron is survived by his wife, Patricia Hoag, of rural Oakland, MN; sons, Michael Hoag of Austin, MN and Jeffrey (Lori) Hoag of Sun Prairie, WI; daughter, Debra (Timothy) Abramowitz of Des Moines, IA; six grandchildren, Megan Hoag of Sun Prairie, WI, Levi (Katelyn) Abramowitz of Waukee, IA, Jannae Abramowitz of Ankeny, IA, Evan (Emma) Abramowitz of Ankeny, IA, Melody Hoag of Madison, WI, and Grant (Justine) Abramowitz of Ames, IA; four great-grandchildren, Lilyann, Theo, and Thomas Abramowitz of Waukee, IA, and Raiden Walker of Madison, WI; brothers, Ernest (Joyce) Hoag of Lonsdale, MN and Robert Hoag of Yucca, AZ; sisters, Margaret ( Mark) Schellhase of Waverly, IA and Ruth ( William) Ostrander of Sandwich, IL; and many nieces and nephews. Ron was preceded in death by his parents, John and Esther Hoag; and two great-grandsons, Zachery Hoag and Leon Abramowitz.
A funeral service for Ron will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, March 14, 2026, at Faith Church in Austin, Minnesota. Interment will be in Grandview Cemetery, Austin. Worlein-Hoff Funeral Homes of Austin are assisting the family with arrangements.
