Ronald Schott Obituary

Schott, Ronald E.
BRUNSWICK - Ronald E. Schott, 91, of 8 Harris Avenue in Brunswick passed peacefully from this life on Monday, September 2 at home, surrounded by his family. A native of Lansingburgh, he was the son of Hans and Dora Olsen Schott. Ron graduated from Lansingburgh High School in 1950, where he was an all-time athletic standout. He received his bachelor's degree from Wittenberg University in 1954 and his Master's in Education from Ithaca College.
Ron is fondly remembered as an educator and coach at Catholic Central and Lansingburgh High Schools. A former Coach of the Year at LHS, Ron was recently honored at a basketball contest between the two schools, having coached varsity basketball at both. He served for three generations as a revered coach in multiple sports, including founding the Brunswick Pop Warner football program and coaching its first and Tamarac Modified Football's first league championship teams. He coached college football at Heidelburg University and served as an umpire, track official and referee in multiple sports.
Ron was an Army veteran of the Korean War Era, serving as an Army Security Agency Code Interceptor. He was a lifetime member of the Center Brunswick United Methodist Church, where he served as trustee and contributed his gift of music through both the vocal and handbell choirs.
He is survived by his wife of 69 years, Elizabeth A. (Morse) Schott; his children, Mark E. Schott, Roger V. Schott and Lynne A. (David) Little; his grandchildren, Patrick A. (Meghan Knab) Little, Daniel C. Little, Carly A. Schott, Tyler J. Schott; and his great-grandson, Parker A. Little. He is also survived by his sisters-in-law, Patricia (Kinne) Schott and Joan (Robb) Schott; as well as several beloved nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by his parents; sister, Gertrude O. Schott; and brothers, Victor Schott and Russell Schott.
Friends, family, former students and colleagues are invited to call from 1-2:30 p.m., followed by a memorial Celebration of Life Service at the Center Brunswick United Methodist Church at 990 Hoosick Rd. (Route 7), in Brunswick on Saturday, September 14. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts would be gratefully received by The Special Olympics and the Center Brunswick United Methodist Church.
