I first met Ron in the early 2000s at a PDAC convention. He had earlier expressed interest in the Society of Economic Geologists and, in particular, student education programs. His support of these programs was extraordinary, both generous and sustained, to the day he passed. My colleagues and members of the Society will feel Ron's absence keenly - it was a privilege to have known him and to recognize the impact that he had on the field of economic geology.

Ron was a friend and mentor. I first met him, as a young graduate level geologist at Bowling Green State University, on a field trip to northern Michigan in the 1970's. He, my graduate geology professor, Dr. Joesph Mancuso, and I were examining uranium and other mineral occurrences. Though he went on to pursue his passion for teaching in history, i always thought his first love was geology - especially that of mineral deposits. He was good at both, though, and was an avid collector of ore specimens - many of which he donated to the Society of Economic Geologists (SEG). I learned much from Ron among which was a greater appreciation, and love, for what would become my chosen profession as a mineral exploration and production geologist. He was a strong supporter, though preferring to be anonymous, of the SEG Foundation and will be missed by me and the society. He now knows where all the undiscovered ore deposits are hidden!
