Hancock Ronald Shuford, 89, a resident of Hancock, passed away Thursday, October 2, 2025, at UP Health System- Portage Hospital following a short illness.
He was born on January 20, 1936, in Dallas, TX, a son of the late Prante and Lena (Decas) Shuford. Ronald was raised in Dallas and was a graduate of Crozier Tech High School with the class of 1954. He lost his father at a young age and took extremely good care of his mother until she passed away.
On December 31, 1955, he was united in marriage to the former Janet Newell. The couple had resided in the Dallas area until their children were grown.
Mr. Shuford worked at Decibel Products for 45 years, retiring in 1998, as a Fabrication Supervisor. In retirement, the couple moved to make their home in Laurium and, more recently, resided in Hancock.
Ronald was a devoted husband and father who always put his family's needs ahead of his own. He instilled a wonderful work ethic into his children, encouraging them to learn everything they could and never be afraid of hard work. Ronald was a gifted handyman who could fix anything, enjoyed working on a variety of projects, especially woodworking and tinkering on cars. He was a fan of progressive country music – Willie, Waylon, and the boys. He also enjoyed vacationing in Mexico and camping while residing in Texas. Later in life he decided cruising was the only way to go.
Ronald was an active Witness of Jehovah from his youth on. He served locally at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses in Hancock.
Surviving are: His wife: Janet Shuford; His daughters: Tammie Carson of Arlington, TX, & Carmel Shuford of Hancock, MI; His grandchildren: Melissa, Erik, and Brittany; His great-grandchildren: Nathan, Alex, Allison, and Abigail; Numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
A memorial service for Ronald will be held Saturday, October 18, 2025, at 5:00 PM EST at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses, 20620 Paavola Rd, Hancock, with Robert Urbaniak officiating.
