Ronald Stacy Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Donaldson-Seymour Funeral Home - Potsdam on Mar. 19, 2026.
RONALD AND TRUDY STACY

WEST POTSDAM – Ronald W. and Trudy L. Stacy tragically passed away as a result of a house fire which occurred on Monday, March 9, 2026 at their home.

Ronald, age 78, was born February 3, 1948 in Potsdam, the son of the late Wilfred and Mary A. (Allen) Stacy. He was a graduate of Norwood-Norfolk Central School and later from SUNY Canton. He proudly served his country in the army, while stationed in Korea. Trudy, age 72, was born April 3, 1953 in Malone, the daughter of the late John P Jr. and Rita B (Bushey) Keefe. She was a graduate of Brushton-Moira Central School and earned her degree from SUNY Potsdam in 1975.

Ron first married Mary Ann Lyons and was blessed with two sons, Michael and Joseph, before their marriage ended. On July 1, 1978, he married Trudy at the Catholic Church in Paul Smiths.

Together they were blessed with two more children, Nicole and Steven.

Ron began work at General Motors before working for the Solid Waste Disposal Authority. Following his employment with SWDA in 2000, he became a line handler at the St. Lawrence Seaway Development Corporation until his retirement. Following her graduation, Trudy began a 33-year career as a teacher at Gouverneur Central Schools. She was a proud member of the St. Lawrence County Chapter of the AAUW and was active with the Potsdam PTA while her children were in school. She enjoyed reading, traveling, cooking, and her family, especially time spent with her grandson, Holden.

Ron, an avid car enthusiast, loved all things cars, cars, and more cars, a passion that landed him the nickname "Lug Nut." He was a proud member of the Northern New York Corvette Club and the Seaway Cruisers. In addition to his love of cars, Ron took great pride in caring for his lawn, which passersby would have noted was always kept in perfect condition.

Ron and Trudy are survived by their children, Michael Stacy of Raymondville, Joseph Stacy of Massena; Nicole and John Miller of Mountain Top, Pennsylvania, and Steven Stacy of Potsdam; their grandchildren, Michael Stacy, Matthew, Maegan, and Morgan Miller, and Holden Stacy; and a great grandson, Roman Stacy.

Trudy is also survived by her sister and her husband, Sue and Bruce Prior of Watertown; her brother and his spouse, Dennis and Linda Keefe of Lyon Mountain, and two brothers, David and John Keefe, both of Paul Smiths; as well as many nieces and nephews.

Along with their parents, they were predeceased by a daughter-in-law, Vanessa Kirby. Ron was also predeceased by his sister, Susan Gonzales.

Ron and Trudy left behind not just a family who adored them, but a life rich with laughter, love, and stories that will be retold for generations.

Arrangements are under the care and guidance of the Donaldson-Seymour Funeral Home, 4 Cedar Street, Potsdam, where their family will receive friends on Sunday, March 29, from 10:00 AM until 11:30 AM, when a brief service will be held. A celebration of their lives will follow at the Potsdam Elks Lodge from 12:00 PM until 4:00 PM.

In lieu of flowers, those wishing may consider contributions to be made to a charity of one's choice.
