I was lucky enough to work with Ron for 10 years at Koppers. I was fresh out of engineering school and Ron was already a seasoned draftsman in 1973. Here are a few of my favorite memories of Ron.
1. He was the fastest and most accurate draftsman that I ever worked with. I still use many of the drafting skills that I picked up from Ron.
2. At Koppers, we sometimes had very complicated shop drawing jobs that were drawn by inexperienced drafts persons. I don't care how complicated the drawings were, how many mistakes the drafts person made, or how many sheets there were (80 for example), Ron would check it in one day, with no mistakes. He was like a cyclone.
3. Ron left the engineering department for estimating and then sales. He was the best estimator, and in my opinion, the best salesman Koppers ever had.
4. When I started an engineering firm in 1983, I asked Ron to go in with me and be my partner. He decided to stick with Koppers, but I couldn't think of anyone I would have rather partnered with.
5. I was also fortunate to work with his son Jim as a partner in our firm for 40 years and he absorbed Ron's excellent qualities. Jim was almost as fast as Ron and just as accurate.
It was great knowing you, Ron. You had a huge impact on me and a lot of other people.

I met Ron when we worked together at the Koppers Unit Structures Plant in Morrisville, NC. Ron was a "great guy" and a good friend, and he was a "Giver" and a "Pusher" in a good way.
I have many fond memories of Ron, but one I want to share is as follows:
When Ron was telling you something, either in person or on the phone, he always had this little laugh/chuckle at the end of what he was saying. In my last telephone conversation with him 2 months ago, right before we hung up, I heard that little chuckle. What a great memory to end our earthly friendship with.
Thanks for the good memories, Ron, and for being my friend and a "great guy".

May God bless Kay, Jim and Debbie in this time of sorrow.
