Ronald L. Thayer Sr., age 74, went home to be with his Lord and Savior on March 6, 2026, surrounded by his loving family.

Ron lived a life dedicated to faith, service, and family. He proudly served his country as a member of the United States Marine Corps. Throughout his life he also served his community as a Stafford County Fire Chief (started in 1976) and Stafford County Sheriff's Chaplain, offering guidance, compassion, and spiritual support to those around him.

Ron was the Pastor of Open Door Community Church, where he devoted his life to sharing his testimony and leading others to the Lord. His faith guided everything he did, and he touched countless lives through his ministry and compassion for others.

Ron also loved the freedom of the open road and the strong brotherhood that came with it. He proudly rode with Leathernecks MC, Sons of God MC, and Red Knights MC, where he formed many lifelong friendships and bonds of brotherhood.

Above all, Ron loved his family deeply. He is survived by his beloved wife of 51 years (Hero) Dee Thayer, his children, Lisa Thayer Wilson (TC), Kimberly Thayer Johnson, and Ronald Thayer Jr. along with seven grandchildren, Troy (Katie), Ashton, Stacey (Cody), Thomas (Kaley), Ronnie III (Diamond), Dominique, and James , and nine great-grandchildren, who were the pride and joy of his life; sisters, Shirley Sieck and Debby Thayer and a brother, Tommy Thayer.

Ron was preceded in death by his parents, Helen and Nelson Thayer; sister Joan Alexander; brothers Dick Thayer, Bill Thayer, and Kenny Thayer.

Ron will be remembered as a man of strong faith, a servant to his community, and a loving husband, father, and grandfather. His legacy of kindness, leadership, and devotion to God and family will live on in all who knew and loved him.

"Well done, good and faithful servant."

Services will be Thursday, March 12 at 12pm at Covenant Funeral Service Fredericksburg. The family will receive friends from 10:30am - 12pm Thursday at the funeral home.

A repasse will be held afterward at the Fraternal Order of Eagles Lodge, 21 Cool Springs Rd. All are welcome to attend.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you donate to Stafford Volunteer Fire Department, Department 2, the Eagles Lodge or your favorite charity.
