Ronald James Waller

Ronald James Waller, 79, passed away on August 4, 2023 in Charlotte, NC. Ron loved the Lord, was a devoted husband, loving father and grandfather, supportive brother and faithful friend. He was born in Rome, New York in 1943. He served in the Air Force during the Vietnam War. Later Ron moved to Orlando, Florida to work in the banking industry where he met his future wife, Debra. They were married in 1979. Ron then fulfilled his life long dream of moving to Hawaii in 1997 where they lived for 7 years. Ron loved the balmy weather, the palm trees, and of course, the Pacific Ocean. They settled in Charlotte, NC to be near family when Debra was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis. In the later stages of the disease, Ron lovingly cared for Debra in their home for 12 years and up until the time of his death.
Ron was a great cook and loved all types of food. He was blessed with a great sense of humor and had a limitless supply of comical stories to tell. He was a history buff and especially liked Roman and Military history. He was a champion of justice for the common man with strong political views. He loved children and gave faithfully to various children ministries. He loved the Lord which was apparent by his generosity and his devotion to Debra and his family. Now we rejoice as Ron experiences the true love of the Father in Heaven.
Ron is survived by his wife, Debra of 43 years of Charlotte, NC, his daughter Rondi Sims of Ft Mills, SC; son in law, Thomas Sims of Ft Mill, SC., grandsons, Julian Ryan Yocum and Thomas James Sims, brothers, Robert Waller and Owen Waller and his sisters Mary Jane Golub and Wanda Bowers; and many nieces, nephews, extended family and friends. He is also survived by Donna Schebel.
Ron was preceded in death by his parents, Wanda and Calvert Waller, brothers Nicholas and James Waller and grandson Ryan McGee.
The family would like to thank the staff and caregivers of Atrium Pineville for their dedication and care of Ron during his illness.
A memorial service will be held on August 22, 2023 at 11:00 am at St Matthews Chapel at 8051 Ballantyne Commons Parkway, Charlotte, NC 28277. Followed by a military burial at Salisbury National Cemetery 501 Statesville Blvd, Salisbury, NC 28144
