Ronnie Orie Hodgson was born March 18, 1936, to Orie and Leota Hodgson in their home North of Cherokee, Oklahoma. He passed away on November 18, 2025 at Kiowa Hospital surrounded by loved ones.
Ronnie graduated from Byron-Driftwood High School in 1955 and was very active in basketball, football, and summer baseball. He went on to Northwestern Oklahoma State University where he completed 2 years. Ronnie began working with Holderby Ford when he received his draft letter in the mail.
Ronnie and Joquietta met in High School and were joined in marriage on February 15, 1958, at Joquietta’s home before he left with the Oklahoma National Guard. He completed six months of active duty at camp Chaffee, Arkansas, with six years total enlistment. He continued to work for Parrs Brothers, Leroy Stauffer, Jim Hadwiger and later worked for McDowell Electric from 1970 to retirement in 2002.
Ronnie and Joquietta started their family in 1959, where they were blessed with four beautiful children; Rick, Terry, Kevin, and Rhonda. Ronnie was a wonderful husband, father and later a top-notch grandpa. He liked going to all sporting events, livestock shows and all family and community gatherings. He was the man behind the camera that made sure to catch the most precious moments we will never get back. He loved drinking coffee with the guys and in his earlier days playing cards with Bill and Dolly Daniels, Boyce and Carol Elmore, and Jim and Glennis White.
Ronnie was a member of the Cherokee Methodist Church and served on the board of trustee’s building committee. He took great pride in the fact that he got to be a part of the beginning process of the new church building. Ronnie also proudly served twenty years on the Cherokee fire department.
In May of 2022 Ronnie’s health led him to a new chapter in his life at the Kiowa Manor. During these last 3 ½ years of life he was cared for and loved on a daily basis by the most wonderful, loving staff. He was surrounded by old friends from his hometown and made lots of new friends along the way as well. Ronnie enjoyed participating in all the manor activities, outings, and visits from family while he resided there. This environment and all the people involved in it allowed him to keep his spirits high, and that big smile on his face while soaking in all the love from everyone around him.
Ronnie was a gentle man built on a foundation of warmth and empathy. He loved nothing more than enjoying quality time with family, such as playing with grandchildren and great grandchildren, offering mentorship and guidance to younger generations or just sharing a quiet, intimate moment with his wife, Joquietta. He will forever be missed by those who knew him.
Ronnie is preceded in death by his son, Terry; his parents, Orie and Leota Hodgson, and brother-in-law, DJ Walker. He is survived by his wife, Joquietta of 67 years, his sister, Janet Tullis, sons, Rick and wife, Annette Hodgson, Kevin and wife, Teresa Hodgson, and daughter, Rhonda and husband, Dennis Mast; grandchildren; Craig and wife, Elizabeth Hodgson, Kirsten and husband, Adan Torres, Na’Cole and husband, Jordan Elledge, Heather and husband, Bryan Murphy, Matt and wife, Cortney Hodgson, Stormee Crow-Gaither, Kayla and husband, Bryce Scalf, Krista and husband, Levi Estes, and Kendra and husband, Kyle Puffinbarger and nineteen great-grandchildren and many nieces, nephews, and friends.
