Gladyce C. KARLIN

KARLIN, Gladyce C. (91) Gladyce C. Karlin, a 30 year resident of Santa Monica, CA passed away on September 29, 2011 at the Monarch Village Senior Community in Tarzana, CA at the age of 91. She was born on April 26, 1920 in New York, NY to parents Mollie and Harry Klein. She was predeceased by her husband Murray Karlin. Gladyce grew up in Brooklyn, New York and was a graduate of Brooklyn College, where she majored in French, Spanish and Education. She taught elementary school in Far Rockaway, NY for 29 years. Upon moving to Los Angeles, CA in 1978 she taught both elementary and junior high school for another 11 years for Los Angeles Unified School District. Gladyce retired after 40 years of dedicated service to her beloved students. Gladyce had numerous interests which included bridge, sewing, knitting and reading. She was an active member of her book club and continually pursued her passion for bridge. Gladyce was an esteemed member of Hadassah of Southern California, having served the organization in various capacities.
Most of all, Gladyce was a wonderful and caring Mother, Grandmother, Aunt, and friend. She is survived by three sons, Dr. Andrew Karlin (Cathy), Robert Karlin and Peter Karlin (Andrea). She is also survived by her cherished grandchildren, Margo, Natalie, Melissa and Tori, as well as beloved nieces and nephews: Bonnie Podell, Joan Rosner, Stephen Barshay, Laurie Krieger and Andy Krieger. She leaves behind many dear friends and relatives who will truly miss her. Funeral services will be held at Green Hills at 27501 S.
