Saltville, Va.On April 15, 2023, Rori Prairie, 56, of
Saltville, Virginia began her final journey. Rori was born in
Brooklyn, New York, on September 13, 1966, to Jeanette Markham and the late Donald Pyne. Rori is welcomed by her father, Donald Pyne, her stepfather, Alvin Markham, her dear brother, Michael Pyne, her grandparents; Max and Sylvia Rider; Gertrude and Tom Regan; and her loving mother-in-law, Sandy Prairie.
Rori happily stepped in for anyone who needed a mother or daughter figure in their life, her presence will be missed enormously. Rori was what many would refer to as "an Angel on Earth." She would do anything for anyone. She spent most of her life loving her family, rescuing stray animals, assisting strangers, doing absolutely anything she could for her daughter, and touching the hearts of many along the way. Some of Rori's favorite things were the color red, Sausalito cookies, mandarin oranges, Pizza Hut, animals, the Blue Ridge Parkway, and most of all- her daughter Samantha. Even throughout Rori's most difficult moments, she was sure to shower her family in love- telling them she loved them over 500+ times. Rori and her husband, Don, were together for 40 years. Eventually, they built a home and welcomed their pride and joy, Samantha. Rori worked passionately as a realtor and a florist. She handcrafted some of the most incredible corsages and boutonnieres her daughter had ever seen. Best friends for 24 years, Samantha and Rori share a bond like no other. Rori would often refer to Samantha as "her everything" or "her whole world."
Rori is survived by her husband, Donald Prairie; her mother, Jeanette Markham; her daughter and best friend, Samantha Prairie; her nephew, Daniel Pyne; her dear friend, Kimberly Collis; her grand-dogs, Coco and Seth; her grand-cats, Connor, Avery, Cuddles, and Addison; loving neighbors, and a multitude of cousins, aunts, uncles, nieces, and nephews who love her dearly.
Rori's wish is for a small memorial to be held with family in Florida at a later date. She asked that everyone celebrate her life over good times and even better food.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Smyth County Animal Shelter located in
Marion, Virginia.
