Rosa Amarillas Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Poway Bernardo Mortuary - Poway on Apr. 19, 2024.
In remembrance of Rosa Amarillas, a cherished mother, wife, and grandmother, we sadly announce her peaceful passing on April 9th. She leaves behind a legacy of love that will forever be treasured by her loved ones.
Born in West Virginia, Rosa's early years were marked by the love and care of her adoptive parents, Shelvie and Myrtle Griffith. Her journey eventually led her to San Diego, where fate brought her together with the love of her life, Mike Amarillas. Rosa embraced Mike's two young daughters, Elizabeth and Yvone, as her own, creating a lifelong family bond.
Rosa's dedication to her family was exemplified by her unwavering love and support for her son Michael J. During his childhood, she stood as a pillar of strength - serving as a den leader, PTA president, and the quintessential "room mom." Rosa's presence was a constant source of comfort and guidance, ensuring that she never missed a game or milestone in her son's life.
One of Rosa's greatest joys was her role as a grandmother to Blake, Miles and Erin. She cherished every moment spent with them, filling their lives with warmth, love, and memories that will last a lifetime.
She loved all children and operated an in-home daycare for several years. Dozens of youngsters got to experience the love and warmth that Rosa poured into her friends and family.
In the last ten years of her life, Rosa faced the challenges of Parkinson's-type disease. While it slowly limited her physical abilities, her spirit and love for her family remained unyielding.
Rosa Amarillas will be remembered for her boundless love, unwavering dedication to her family, and the countless lives she touched with her kindness. Her legacy of love and devotion will continue to live on in the hearts of those who were fortunate enough to know her. May she find eternal peace, surrounded by the love and memories she created during her earthly journey.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Miguel Jesus "Mike" Amarillas. She is survived by her son, Michael J. Amarillas, and his wife Brianna; her stepdaughter Elizabeth Kern; her stepdaughter Yvone Callan and her husband Dave; and her cherished grandchildren, Blake, Miles, and Erin.
A funeral mass will be held for Rosa at 10AM on Friday, April 26 at San Rafael Catholic Church, 17252 Bernardo Center Drive, San Diego, CA 92128; a reception will follow.
