Rosa T. Fonseca, 81, of South Bend, IN, passed away Thursday, December 9, 2010 in Hospice House. She was born on October 29, 1929 in Sersales, Italy. Rosa retired as a cook for the Brothers at St. Joseph’s High School. She was also employed with Wilson Brothers, Healthwin Hospital, and Ball Band. On July 3, 1954, in Holy Cross Church, as Rosa T. Mancuso, she married Manuel D. Fonseca, who preceded her in death on February 14, 2007. Also preceding her in death were her brother, Salvatore Mancuso; other siblings who all died as children; and two grandsons. Survivors include her three daughters, Rose Mary (Paul) Chambers of Bradenton, FL, Diana (Neil) Dockemeyer of South Bend, IN, and Lucy Fonseca of Vista, CA; four grandchildren, Benjamin LaBrake, Zachary Fonseca-Miller, Timothy (Carinda) Knefely, and Cecelia Dockemeyer; two great-grandchildren, Addison and Landon Knefely; her sister-in-law, Donna Fonseca of Mishawaka, IN; and by many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews. Rosa’s joy came from the love she had for her family and dear friends. We will miss you Nana. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, December 15, 2010, at Holy Cross Church. Burial will follow at Highland Cemetery. Friends may call from 4 until 7 p.m. Tuesday at the Kaniewski Funeral Home, 3545 N. Bendix Drive, where a rosary will be prayed at 4:00 p.m. Friends may also call from 9:30 until 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday in the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the Holy Cross Education Fund or the Center for Hospice and Palliative Care Center. To send online condolences, please visit Kaniewski.com.
