Rosa Lee Powell

On December 9, 2025, Rosa Lee Powell, age 89, entered her eternal rest, peacefully surrounded by her loving family. Heaven welcomed a faithful servant, and earth rejoices in a life beautifully lived.

Rosa accepted Jesus Christ as her personal Savior earlier in life and remained steadfast in her walk with Him. She faithfully served at Family Baptist Christian Ministries for numerous years alongside her devoted husband of 63 years, the late Rev. Raymond A. Powell Sr. Together, they exemplified love, service, and commitment to God and His people. Rosa was a woman of grace, quiet strength, laughter, and unwavering faith, whose life touched all who knew her.

She cherished her family, church, community, and friends, leaving behind a rich legacy of love, compassion, and faithful service.

Rosa was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Rev. Raymond A. Powell. Sr, her daughter, Denise Davis; her sister, Sarah Kellam; and her brothers, Richard Hicks, Jr., George Hicks, Sr., Willie Hicks, Edward Hicks, and Milton Hicks.

Born to the late Estelle Joyner Hicks and Richard Hicks, Sr., Rosa lived a life devoted to God, family, and service. Her gentle spirit, steadfast faith, and loving heart will forever remain in the lives she touched. Though she will be deeply missed, we rejoice in knowing she now rests in the presence of her Lord, hearing the words, "Well done, thy good and faithful servant."

She leaves to cherish her loving memory six children: Gertie Dawkins; Pastor Angela Mays (Fred); Pastor Dr. Gwendolyn Beale (Rufus); Rev. Annette Powell, Apostle Raymond (Zo El) Powell, Jr.; (Monica); Jermaine Powell; a special goddaughter; Rev. Frances Phelps, eight grandchildren, seven great grandchildren, and a loving brother Larry Hicks; along with a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family members, and treasured friends.

She will be greatly missed by all who knew her and loved her dearly.
