Rosalyn Block Wolfson passed away on July 18, 2025, with family by her side, at the age of 87, after a series of illnesses over the last year.
Rosalyn was born in San Antonio, Texas, on April 29, 1938, the cherished daughter of Abe and Mary Block. When Rosalyn was just three weeks old, the family moved to Corpus Christi.
She graduated from Ray High School in 1956, went to study at the University of Texas at Austin and later became a psychologist.
In Corpus, she met and married the love of her life, Maury Wolfson, in 1957. In 1959, Maury and Rosalyn welcomed their first child, son Barry. Two years later, the family was complete with the arrival of daughter, Margo.
Rosalyn was deeply committed to the Jewish community as a member of Hadassah and of the Sisterhood of B'nai Israel Synagogue. She enjoyed a weekly lunch with a devoted group of friends, the Monday Lunch Bunch, for many years.
She was an avid reader and she knew things like nutrition and exercise were important to overall health. She was a fixture at the Corpus Christi Athletic Club. Rosalyn was an excellent cook and for most of their lives together, she made delicious, healthy meals at home so Maury would not be tempted to eat out at restaurants.
Rosalyn worked as a psychologist for many years. She was a mental health advocate long before it became part of our daily lexicon.
Those who know her well will always smile when they think of Rosalyn's complete joy at being a grandmother. She was loving and loyal, calm and compassionate, proud and playful when it came to her grandchildren. Alec and Courtney were the lights of her life and her generosity was endless. She absolutely loved being their 'Granny.'
Rosalyn is preceded in death by her husband, Maury, her parents Abe and Mary Block, her brother Stanley Block, son-in-law Eric Strull, mother-and-father-in-law Abe and Dora Wolfson, brother-and-sister-in-law Sylvan and Gloria Wolfson and nephew Steve Wolfson.
Left behind to cherish her memory are her children, Barry Wolfson and Margo Strull, grandson Alec Strull and his wife, Montana, granddaughter Courtney Strull and her fiancé Andrew Mihalick, great-grandson Brooks Strull, nephew Bruce Wolfson and his wife Sherry, nephew Randy Block and his wife Caroline, niece Michelle Goldsmith, and sister-in-law Cathy Block, along with several great nieces and nephews, and many loving cousins and friends.
Rosalyn was an elegant, calm, quiet pillar of strength for those she loved and she will be dearly missed. Her 'Mur,' her beloved husband of 67 years, Maury, passed away in May and their family is comforted knowing they did not have to be separated for long.
The family would like to thank Dr. John Schulze and Dr. Gregg Silverman for their many years of devoted care, along with caregivers Lucy, Mary, Leonor, and Blasa, for their compassion for Rosalyn in her final months. A special thanks, as well, to Suzy Harris Hilliard and Christy Cave for all of their help and loving care.
A funeral service and burial will take place on Sunday, July 20, at Seaside Memorial Park at 1:00 p.m., with a reception immediately following at Congregation Beth Israel.
Serving as pallbearers are Bruce Wolfson, Sean Wolfson, Kenneth Maltz, Myron Grossman, Robert Harris, Richard Harris, Dr. Gregg Silverman, Dr. John Schulze, Nelson Block, Don Feferman and Brian Strull. Randy Block will serve as an honorary pallbearer.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Rosalyn's memory can be made to Congregation Beth Israel.
Mom, Granny, Aunt Rosalyn, we will miss you very much.
