Rose (Capirci) Patane

Mrs. Rose (Capirci) Patane, age 84, peacefully passed away at home on Friday, February 13, 2026, comforted by the deep love of her family.

Born in Aquino, Province of Frosinone, Italy, on January 6, 1942, Rose was the daughter of the late Angelo and Lucia (Ciccone) Capirci. She immigrated to Utica as a child, where her mother was born, and was raised and educated locally. She married Biagio Patane on July 26, 1996, and together they shared 30 years of love, companionship, and memories.

Rose had a long and dedicated career at Joseph and Feiss in Utica and also served as the Union Secretary earning admiration for her commitment, professionalism, and tireless work ethic prior to her retirement. In addition, she worked alongside her family at her son’s pizzeria, Palermo, in Waterloo, NY, where she shared her traditional cooking, a place she truly enjoyed.

From the foundation of her family, she carried forward the values that defined her. As the middle child, with two older brothers and a younger sister, she learned early the importance of loyalty, responsibility, and devotion; lessons she lived by every day. Her respect and love for her mother and father were nothing short of extraordinary. Her family unit was unbreakable, shaped by a lifetime of resilience.

She returned to Italy several times; her final visit with her siblings, Ciccio and Paula, was filled with endless laughter and the kind of joy that made every moment memorable. Watching them together was a gift, and their closeness was unmistakable.

Rose was a devoted wife and mother, with her husband Benny and sons, Peter and Steven, at the center of her life. Yet, at the very heart of her being were her brothers, Ciccio and Franco, and her sister Paula. Her siblings were her anchors, her first loves in loyalty and devotion, the people who understood her completely and held a place in her soul that nothing else could touch. Her love was fierce, steady, and unconditional, expressed in every act of care and every thoughtful gesture. Her dedication to her family went far beyond the ordinary. She loved profoundly, wholeheartedly, and without hesitation.

Rose worked endlessly with Benny tending their garden and home, which she kept impeccable, and was a source of pride for them both. He loved to take her dancing, and they also enjoyed the lively excitement of the casino together.

The kitchen was where Rose expressed herself best, preparing her old-world meals not just to feed but to please and bring happiness to her family. Holidays were never just holidays; she made them warm, welcoming, and full of love. Family card games, Seven and a Half and Briscola, were legendary, and family reunions were her family’s greatest blessing. She famously insisted that no one bring a thing, ensuring every detail was perfectly hers. We will miss these gatherings most of all. Our Bocce games will never be the same; indeed, nothing will be without our unforgettable Rose.

Rose is survived by her loving husband, Biagio "Benny" Patane. At one time, she was married to the late Steve Manzo, and they were blessed with two sons whom she deeply loved and was incredibly proud of, Peter Manzo and Ret. USMC/GySgt Steven M. Manzo and his wife, Margaret; stepchildren, Sylvia, David, Benjamin, and Maria Luisa; a doting grandmother of Rachel and her husband, Robert Martinez; Anthony Manzo and their mother, Linda Laquitara, who Rose adored; Brianna and her husband, USAF/TSgt Zachariah D. Austin; and USMC/LCpl Sara B. Manzo; and great-grandmother to Wilder, Wrenlee, Elliott, Michael, Nico, and Bella.

She will be sorely missed by her beloved sister, Paula (Capirci) Nasto; her sister-in-law, Angela Capirci, and her children, Angela and her husband Steve, Joseph, Marie and her partner Jose, and sister-in-law, Diane Capirci, and her children, Lucinda and her husband Ret. USMC/SgtMaj Emmett Salas, Melissa, Mark, and Diana; and brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Louis and Tina Manzo, and their sons Joseph and Louis. A much-loved aunt, caring for her nieces and nephews as her own, acknowledging Joseph and Lynn Capirci and Stephen Capirci; Joseph Coco, Danielle and Steven Brucker, Christopher Coco, and Tara Collins; special great-nieces, Madeleine Brucker and Aaliyah Coco.

She is also remembered by her cousins in Italy, Adele, Mario, Anna, Pietro, Teresa, and Rosella. She was fortunate to have wonderful friends, Angela and Lucio, and Vicente "Virginia" Mule, whose love and friendship meant the world to her.

She was predeceased by her brothers, Francesco "Ciccio" Capirci, and Ret. USMC/MGySgt Franco M. Capirci; sister-in-law, Marie Capirci; cousins, Sandro and Rita Capirci, and Rosa Capirci; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Sebastiano and Luisa Patane; best friend, Vicki Convertino; and her faithful dogs, Lacy and Milly.

The family would like to thank the doctors and staff at St. Joseph's Hospital for the care and compassion shown to Rose and our family. We also extend our gratitude to Sylvia for honoring Rose in her final days and to Rose and Benny’s neighbors, Ted and Holly, whose close friendship has been such a blessing over the years, and to Gary and Cindy for their thoughtful support and kindness.

Her legacy is one of devotion. Bold and unapologetically herself, she lived life on her own terms, and we admired and respected her for all she was.

Visitation will be held on Saturday, February 21, 2026, from 2 to 6 pm at New Comer Cremations & Funerals, 705 N. Main Street in Syracuse. A Final Blessing will follow at 6:00 pm.
