Rose Gurgone, February 7, 2024, beloved wife of the late Michael Anthony Gurgone. Cherished mother of Kathryn (Carmen) Cortese, Virginia Palmera and the late James Gurgone. Adored grandmother of Joseph Cortese, Gina Palmera, Vincent (Erin) Palmera, DeAnna Cortese (James Stevens) and Nicholas Palmera; great grandmother of Francesco "Frankie" Palmera and Salvatore "Sal" Palmera. Rose was preceded in death by her parents, Vito and Carmella (nee Vitro) Spano and her sisters, Frances (Paul) Fighera and Carmella (Walter) Forst. Rose was a loving aunt and friend to many.
Rose lived in the Clearing-Garfield Ridge neighborhood for over 60 years. She was a loyal parishioner of St. Symphorosa Church. She and her husband enjoyed traveling, Rose enjoyed cooking and sharing her famous Italian meatballs with friends and family. Rose was proud to have been a member of the "Friendship Club". Her highs school friends kept in touch and enjoyed monthly get-togethers. Rose was best known as a homemaker. She loved beyond words, spending time with her family and friends. She will be missed by all who knew her.
Services will be held at Central Chapel 6158 S. Central, where family and friends will gather on February 13, 2024 from 9 to 11 a.m. Funeral Mass 11:30 at St. Symphorosa Church, 62nd and Austin Avenue in Chicago. Burial will follow at St. Mary Cemetery in Evergreen Park, Illinois.
