Rose Olander Obituary

Published by Weed Corley Fish Funeral Homes and Cremation Services - North on Nov. 27, 2008.
Rose Marie Ballerstedt Olander so loved her family and friends as they loved her. Rose loved her Savior Jesus Christ Who took her in to His care on Thursday, November 27, 2008. Rose was the only child born to Rose Maude and Gilbert Bruce Ballerstedt on November 19, 1927 in Austin, TX. She graduated from Austin High School, attended Queens College in Charlotte, NC and graduated from the University of Texas in Austin with a BA in Business Administration and a minor in Music. On August 6, 1949 Rose married A.M. "Red" Olander of Hutto, TX. Rose was a talented musician and vocalist throughout her life. She taught piano and voice lessons to children and youth for many years. She also served as the director of children, youth and adult choirs in Houston, Midland, New Orleans and more recently in Austin at Westminster Presbyterian Church. Rose was a truly amazing wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She and Red have four children, eight grandchildren and one great-granddaughter. Rose's grandchildren have always affectionately referred to her as "Bammy." Rose and Red's four children are Rosellyn Olander McIver, Gary Olander, Maribeth Olander Story and David Olander. Rosellyn and her late husband, the Rev. Dr. Malcolm "Mac" McIver, III have three daughters, Sara, Catherine and Mary Elisabeth. Catherine and her husband Jared Kennedy have one daughter, Zoey Rose. Gary and Grace Olander have one daughter, Carrie. Maribeth and her husband Dave Story have one daughter, Rebecca, and one son, David, who is engaged to marry Rose Ann Nichols. David and Debbie Olander have one daughter, Lauren, and one son, Hayden. "Red" and the family extend their heartfelt thanks for the love, compassion and support of Rose and they feel richly blessed with the generous, steadfast care and support from friends, medical personnel, nurses aids including Gladys and Phyllis, and especially the pastors and families of Westminster Presbyterian Church. A memorial service will be held at Westminster Presbyterian Church, 3208 Exposition Blvd., Austin, Texas, at 1:00 p.m., Thursday December 4, 2008. Memorials may be made to: Westminster Presbyterian Church, 3208 Exposition Blvd., Austin, TX 78703, Central Presbyterian Church, 200 East 8th Street, Austin, TX 78701, Arthritis Foundation, Texas Chapter, P.O. Dear Olander Family
I am so sorry to learn about Rosa's passing. I have such fond memories of Rose as a young child. She had a spirit about her that would light up a room. God Bless

Dear Red & family,
We are so sad about Rose, but we were all blessed by her presence and love and watched as she suffered through much pain. I am so thankful that I spent as much time with her over many years. Our sympathy goes out to all of you. We will not be able to come to the Service, as much as we want to. Red we will be talking to you soon.
Our Love to you.
