Rose Olson Obituary
Published by Legacy on Dec. 4, 2025.
Rose Marie Olson, beloved mother, partner, grandmother, sister, and friend, passed away on December 3rd, 2025, at CHI Hospital in Lisbon, ND.
She was born on September 7, 1943, in Valley City, ND, to Art and Verna Holub. Rose grew up in the Verona area, attending Black Loam #4 Schoolhouse and later Verona Public School. She graduated from Verona High School in 1961.
On June 9, 1962, Rose married Kenneth Olson. Together they welcomed five children: Keith, Lynn, Julie, Norma, and Neil. Although Rose and Kenneth later went their separate ways, she continued to devote herself to her family.
Rose had a heart for caring for people. She worked at St. John's Hospital in Fargo as a nurse's aide before she married. After moving to Fort Ransom with Kenneth, Rose returned to being a nurse's aide at the Lisbon Hospital in 1982. She later transitioned to the housekeeping department within the hospital-always caring for others with a kind heart and a warm smile.
In 1988, Rose met her life-partner, Rick Hanna. Their relationship blossomed, and before long they built a life together at their home south of Lisbon-a house filled with love, laughter, and countless memories. Rose and Rick embraced each other's families as their own. Rose gained Rick's five children, and Rick lovingly welcomed hers. Over the years, they were blessed with a large and lively family that grew to include 28 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren.
After retirement in 2018, Rose found great joy in the simple pleasures of life. She was happiest with her hands in the garden surrounded by her chickens, sewing a new creation, baking something sweet for the grandkids, or gathered with her loved ones during holidays and family celebrations. Her simple presence was always warm, always welcoming, and always filled with love.
Rose is survived by her partner of 38 years, Rick Hanna; her children Lynn (Scott) Thorfinnson, Julie (Tom) Nord, Norma (Todd) Rasmusson, and Neil Olson; her "bonus children" Chad (Heather) Hanna, Lee (Jennie) Hanna, Kari (Brian) Gilje, Jamie (Kayla) Hanna, and Chris (Kelsey) Hanna; grandchildren Shad Thorfinnson, BreAnn (Levi) Odegard, KyAnn (Nick) Horgeshimer, Cort (Tylar) Thorfinnson, Patrick (Emily) Nord, Michael Nord, Rebecca (Micheal Gran), Amy (Dustin) Kath, Cassidy (Dillon) Bishop, Shaina (Carter Hoenhause) Rasmusson, and Kolby (Machaela Mund) Rasmusson, and 16 great-grandchildren; 17 bonus grandchildren, Jordan Schreiner, Kayci and Piper Hanna, Sofia and Jacob Hanna, Dustin (Sydney) Gilje, Andrew (Ciara) Sherman, Mackenna Sherman, Jaden and Carter Gilje, Madison Ervin and Benjamin Hanna, and Lane, Lily, Liah, and Luke Hanna, and 5 bonus great-grandchildren; and her siblings Frank Holub, Alvin Holub, Connie (Norris) Smedshammer, and sister-in-Law Ava Holub.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Art and Verna Holub; son, Keith Olson; brother, Lewis Holub; sister-in-law, Norma Holub; niece, Nicole Holub; and nephew, James Holub.
