Rose Johnson's story is one that embodies the very essence of strength, resilience, and love. 1940, she married Willie Peay, Jr. in Chester, SC, in a marriage that lasted 72 years. Together they made the brave decision to move to West Philadelphia, leaving behind family and started a new chapter of their lives. Their union was blessed with four children: Samuel Lee, Rosemary (who preceded her in death), Leon ( preceded in death), and Linda.
Rose's life in West Philadelphia was marked by her unwavering dedication to her family and her work. For over 35 years, she worked diligently at Modern Laundry, making a lasting impact on the community and showing her deep commitment to both her family and career. Her weekdays were spent enjoying her favorite soap operas, The Young and the Restless and Law and Order SVU, she also enjoyed watching baseball every season. While her weekends were a time for reflection and joy, often listening to Bishop Louise Williams. She found fulfillment in cooking and cleaning, simple yet meaningful activities that brought her peace. Rose also cherished the moments she spent at the casinos in Atlantic City, where she created lasting memories through 2024
As the matriarch of her family, Rose's love and dedication were unwavering. She was a cornerstone of the West Philadelphia community, always showing up for others with a heart full of generosity. Her belief in the power of voting and civic engagement reflected her commitment to the betterment of the world around her. Rose's strength, love, and generosity touched countless lives, and her absence will be deeply felt by all who knew her.
On February 17, 2025, Rose peacefully answered God's call, surrounded by the love of her family. She was reunited with her beloved husband, Willie Peay, Jr., her daughter Rosemary Peay, and her son Leon Peay. Rose leaves behind a legacy of love, family, and resilience that
will continue to inspire all who knew her. She is survived by her children Samuel Lee and Linda her 16 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
