Rose Schmidt Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Kevin Brennan Family Funeral Home on Feb. 12, 2026.
Rose Marie Meier Schmidt, born April 15, 1935, entered into eternal rest on February 11, 2026.

Rose was the cherished daughter of Joseph G. and Rose Lambrecht Meier and grew up in Topeka, Kansas, alongside her brothers George, Tony, Sil, and Tom Meier, and her sisters Phylis Wiedman and Margaret Meier.

On October 26, 1957, Rose married Leander "Lee", beginning a loving marriage that lasted 61 years. Together they built a beautiful life and founded Schmidt Vending, Inc. in 1957-a family business that remains in operation 69 years later.

A lifelong Catholic, Rose was baptized and confirmed at St. Joseph Catholic Church, where she returned in 2020. She was instrumental in supporting the establishment of Mother Teresa of Calcutta parish in Topeka, helping with the erection of its church building and kitchen. Rose was a graduate of Hayden High School in Topeka.

Beyond her faith and family, Rose had a deep passion for horses. She was an accomplished competitor, earning numerous world championships in AQHA and AQBA events. One of her most recent contributions to the community was supporting the development of Schmidt Wild Horse Arena at Lake Perry.

Rose's life was defined by faith, family, hard work, and a generous spirit. She leaves behind a legacy of love and dedication that will continue through her family and all who were blessed to know her. Her family would like to extend their deepest gratitude to the support staff at Lexington Park and Ascend Hospice for their generous and loving care.

Rose is survived by her children, Charles Schmidt (Pam), Joe Schmidt (Sue), Linda Pfeifer, and Monica Schmidt; 11 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; brother, Sil Meier; and sisters, Phylis Wiedman and Margaret Meier. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Leander "Lee" Schmidt, her parents, and her brothers, Tom, Tony and George.

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Tuesday, February 17, 2026, at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 227 SW Van Buren, Topeka KS 66603. Private inurnment will be in Mount Calvary Cemetery.

In memory of Rose, memorial contributions may be made to Broken Wing Ranch Ministries, or to Friends of Lake Perry Equestrian Park and sent in care of Kevin Brennan Family Funeral Home, 2801 SW Urish Road, Topeka KS 66614. Condolences may be sent online to www.kevinbrennanfamily.com.
