Rose Fern Mitchell Schultz, age 96, of Park Rapids, MN, went home to be with Jesus on Aug. 3, 2025.
Rose was born to Frank and Ellen Mitchell on July 27, 1929, on a farm near Park Rapids, MN. She graduated from Park Rapids High School in 1947 and then ventured off to college in Havre, MT. She graduated with her teaching degree from Montana State University in 1951. She then taught school in western Minnesota where she met her future husband, Gerald “Giggs” Schultz. They were united in marriage on Aug. 24, 1952, by Pastor Kenneth Wittenburg, they were the first couple he ever married. She then drove by herself up to Alaska where Giggs was stationed in the Air Force. They then moved to Glascow, MT, in 1953 where she taught elementary school. In 1968, they purchased a farm in Clover Township, north of Park Rapids, where they resided ever since. Rose and Gerald were blessed by the adoption of 2 children, Pamela in 1964 and David in 1966.
Rose taught in a one room schoolhouse in Clover Township during the sixties. She then changed careers and went to work at Itasca State Park where she was a supervisor for housekeeping and laundry services for Douglas Lodge and Cabins. She was devoted to her work until her retirement in 1995. She was also an active member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Lake George, MN, where she taught Sunday School and was a member of the Ladies Aid for many years. In her free time, she loved reading, gardening, and canning the fruits of her labor. She was passionate about sewing and quilting and made many beautiful projects over the years.
Rose will be lovingly remembered by her family, daughter Pam (Craig) Cheney of Madison, WI; son, David (Cynthia) Schultz of Woodbury, MN; 6 dearly loved grandchildren, Jessica (Ben), Jacob (Lacy), Tessa (Tyler), Sarah, William (Oceana), Lizzy and Alex; and 2 great-grandchildren, Avery and Cooper; as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Gerald; parents, Frank and Ellen; 4 brothers, Charley, Roy, Orville, and Frank; 3 sisters, Mary, Rachel, and Doris; and spunky granddaughter, Tasha.
Funeral service for Rose will be held on Saturday, Aug. 9, 2025, at 11:00 am at Trinity Lutheran Church in Lake George, MN, with a time for visitation one hour before. Interment will be at Arago-Clover Evergreen Cemetery in Arago, MN, immediately following the luncheon.
