On behalf of our family, I want to thank you all for being here to celebrate the life of our mom, Rosa 'Rosemary' M. Cusumano.
Mom was born on September 12, 1939 in Terrasini, Sicily - a beautiful little town by the sea - and from the very beginning, she carried with her the warmth, strength, and heart of her Italian roots. She came to this country and built a life centered on love, family, and hard work. Everything she did reflected those values.
From the moment she became a mother, her life became about her family. She spent her whole life loving and raising her five children. Every decision she made, every bit of effort she gave, was for us. She had a tremendous work ethic and a deep sense of discipline, but behind all that strength was the most loving, kind, and selfless heart.
Mom was also an incredible cook - truly a master of homemade meals that brought our family together. Her pasta, cookies, and bread weren't just food; they were memories, made with love and patience. Every Sunday dinner felt like an event - the smells from the kitchen, the chatter around the table, and that comforting feeling that we were home. Those meals weren't just nourishment for the body - they fed our souls.
She was also a devoted wife. Our dad, Russell, who was legally blind, depended on her in many ways - and she never once complained. She sacrificed so much of her own life to care for him, to make sure he was comfortable and loved. The way she supported and stood by him was a true example of loyalty, compassion, and devotion.
Family meant everything to Mom. She loved being surrounded by her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. You could see the joy in her eyes when everyone was together - laughing, sharing stories, and just being close. That was her happy place.
Mom's life was built on love, sacrifice, and faith. She taught us all what it means to work hard, to care deeply, and to always put family first. She didn't just talk about love - she lived it. Every single day.
It's hard to imagine life without her. She was our anchor - the one who kept us grounded, the one who made our family what it is. But even though she's no longer here in person, I know she's with us - in the traditions she created, in the love she gave, and in the strength she instilled in each of us.
So today, while our hearts are heavy, we also feel grateful. Grateful for her life, her lessons, her sacrifices, and the endless love she shared.
Mom - thank you for everything. You were our rock, our comfort, and our greatest blessing. We love you deeply, and we'll carry your love and your legacy with us forever.
