Rosemary Colleen McMahon Cundill, age 91, of Springfield, Virginia passed away October 20 surrounded by her loving family. Rosemary was born in Durban, South Africa and was predeceased by her husband Derek Edward Cundill with whom she was married for 61 years, her parents, Albert John "Toddy" and Aletta "Lettie" McMahon of Durban, South Africa. Rosemary was Toddy and Lettie's only child.
Rosemary attended the Durban Girls High School and then the Natal Technical College before starting work as a secretary. Rosemary and Derek married in 1959. Rosemary supported her husband in the ways that showed her support for Christ. With Rosemary, Derek went on to a long career with Mobil Corporation, as an engineer in various positions, including managing the oil refinery in Amsterdam, The Netherlands, and later as an executive at Mobil Headquarters in New York and Fairfax, Virginia, retiring in 1994. Rosemary was an outstanding seamstress, knitter, and homemaker where her cooking made for special Thanksgiving memories for many. She had a soft spot for all animals, loved tea and coffee with too much sugar, playing piano and classical music, and keeping up correspondence with friends and family writing letters.
Rosemary was a committed Christian and active in the evangelical church throughout her life, teaching Sunday School and participating in missionary and women's groups-in South Africa with a small evangelical church associated with the Christian Brethren, an Anglican Church in Amsterdam, The Netherlands, the Evangelical Free Church in Wilton, Connecticut, and Immanuel Bible Church in Springfield, Virginia where she remained an active member for 31 years participating in Sunshine Adult Bible Fellowship and the Morning Star class.
Rosemary is survived by her son and daughter-in-law Andrew and Amy Cundill of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, grandchildren Samantha Cundill Koval and husband Josh, Clair Cundill Martin and husband Philip, great grandchildren Noelle, Phillip, Evelyn, and daughter and son-in-law Deborah and Shannon Donovan of Fairfax, Virginia, and grandchildren Ryan, Bryce and Sean.
A memorial service will be held October 27, 9am at Jefferson Funeral Chapel, 5755 Castlewellan Drive, Alexandria, Virginia, followed by interment at Fairfax Memorial Park, Fairfax, Virginia.
The family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations in Rosemary's memory be made to Central Union Mission (www.missiondc.org) or the Alzheimer's Association (www.alz.org).
