Our beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend passed away peacefully on October 7, 2025. Born on October 22, 1937, in Brawley, California, she was the proud daughter of Louisa Alonzo Sidhu and Sucha Singh Sidhu. Her mother was Mexican and her father Punjabi, and from them she inherited a deep love of family, a strong will, and a generous heart.
Rosemary was preceded in death by her husband, Henry Joseph Montijo. Though, she and Henry shared the same hometown of Brawley, life’s path would not bring them together until years later in Sacramento. Both came from families who traveled throughout California for migrant farm work, and it was there that their lives intertwined. They met at church, fell in love, and began a life together built on faith, integrity, and devotion. They raised four children, David, Diana, Sharon (Xavier), and Sandra (Brett), creating a home filled with laughter, warmth, and the kind of connection that lasts a lifetime.
She and Henry shared a passion for seeing the world together. They traveled widely, taking in all that life had to offer and often visiting or journeying with family along the way. Whether at home or abroad, she found joy in discovery, conversation, and togetherness.
A lifelong educator and leader, Rosemary began her career as an elementary school teacher, and later becoming a college counselor, dedicated to guiding and empowering students. Through her intelligence, compassion, and determination, she advanced through the ranks to become Vice President of Student Services at American River College, where she inspired others through her leadership and vision.
She was known for her intelligence, poise, and generosity, and she carried herself with a keen sense of style and elegance that reflected her confidence and grace. She stood firm in her values, offered understanding and kindness to those around her, and left an impression of warmth wherever she went.
Rosemary is survived by her children, brothers David and Harry Sidhu, and many other family members. Friends and family are invited to attend Rosemary’s Celebration of Life on Saturday December 13th, 12 noon at the Milagro Event Centre, 6241 Fair Oaks Blvd, Carmichael, CA.
A scholarship fund has been established in Rosemary Montijo’s name at American River College.
