Rosemary Kathryn Owen of Mattoon passed away at her home on October 27, 2025 at the age of 90.
Rosemary was born on April 25, 1935 to the late Carl and Mae “Mary” (Igl) Schroeder. She was united in marriage to Earl Owen on June 28, 1958. He preceded her in death on March 29, 1999.
She graduated from Antigo High School. She went on to work as an inspector at a laundromat in Milwaukee. Upon moving back home, Rosemary worked in potato farming and later for Langlade Memorial Hospital as a circulating aid in pediatrics and surgery. Rosemary and Earl owned and operated Owen Service in Mattoon. Her family holds dear memories of growing up and spending time around the family business.
She was a faithful member of Mattoon Methodist Church. She was active in 4-H, serving as a leader. She enjoyed knitting, crocheting, and creating quilts for friends and family. She also enjoyed cards, dominoes, and puzzles. She had a love for nature, maintaining her flower gardens and feeding and watching the birds. Rosemary was known for her dedication to her faith and family. She was always willing to lend a helping hand, whether it was her neighbors, church, or community.
Rosemary is survived by children; Brian (Dawn) Owen of Mattoon, Dela Smith of Bowler, and Austin (Sonja) Owen of Grapevine, TX, grandchildren; Elizabeth (Peter) Groehler of Fond du Lac, Christopher Owen (Kirthia Nelson) of Oshkosh, Daniel Smith (Tabitha Thorne) of Wausau, Diane (Hunter) Anderson of Wonder Lake, IL, Dustin (Jennifer) Owen of Taylor, TX, Alicia (Dakota) Cummings of Watauga, TX, and Preston Owen attending Oklahoma State University, great grandchildren; James Owen, Lane McGowan, and Owen Cummings, sisters; Alice (Mike) Klimoski of Langlade and Joyce Van Alstine of Langlade, sister-in-law Dorothy Miller of Wausau, and brothers-in-law Roy Owen of TX and Charles Owen of Wausau. She is further survived by many dear nieces, nephews, and cousins.
In addition to her parents and husband, Rosemary was preceded in death by a son-in-law; Daniel Smith, brother; Edward (Judy) Schroeder, brothers-in-law; Jim Van Alstine, Frederick Miller, and Don Owen, sisters -in-law Sue Owen and Jill Owen.
A funeral service for Rosemary will be held on Saturday, November 1, 2025 at 12:00 PM at Antigo Methodist Church with Pastor Ferdinand Serra officiating. Visitation will take place prior to the service at the church from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM. Following the service, burial will take place at Woodlawn Cemetery in Mattoon.
