Rosetta Flowers

Rosetta (Brookins) Flowers was born on August 31, 1934 in Meridian, MS to the late Sam and Addie (Jack) Brookins. She was the thirteenth of fourteen children and the third of four daughters. Nurtured by a Christian family, she accepted Christ at an early age.

Rosetta moved to Joliet, IL while in high school where she graduated from Joliet Township (now Joliet Central). She later earned her bachelors degree and masters degree from Lewis University.

Rosetta met Odell Flowers in Joliet. Theymet through his brother and a friend, Maxine Boykin. They married in August of 1956 in Los Angeles, CA. From this union two sons were born: Ray Dell and Martyn Lance.

Rosetta worked in the library at Statesville Penitentiary for many years, developed the curriculum and taught preschoolers at the Warren Sharpe Center for several years, and was a retired educator at Child Evangelism Fellowship, Inc.

Rosetta was a devoted christian. She was a devoted member of Second Baptist Church for over 60 years where she served in many ministries such as a teacher in sunday school, a member of the deacons and trustees wives ministry, an officer of the women's fellowship, coordinator on the mission board, ooordinator of the prison ministry holiday dinners, director of vacation bible school, and taught spanish to children in the church. She also enjoyed evangelizing on line.

Rosetta passed away peacefully on December 6, 2025. She was preceded in death by her husband of 59 years, Odell Flowers; her son, Martyn Flowers; ten brothers; Sherman, John, Richard, Howard, Sherrod, Bill, Sam Jr., Nathaniel, Lamar, and Henry; and three sisters; Johnnie Trotter, Margaret Pickett, and Addie Reatha Logan.

Rosetta leaves to cherish her memories her son, Ray Flowers (Jeannie) of Lancaster, CA; her daughter-in-law, Linda Flowers; five grandchildren, Caborsha, Kesha, Krystal, Raphel, and Jasmine Flowers; five great grandchildren, Darrell Junior, Nyerra, Ameer, Malik, and Harmony; sister-in-law, Irma (Henry) Brookins; godson, Kevin Brookins; numerous nieces and nephews; and a host of other family and friends.
