Ross Palermo Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Carlucci-Golden-DeSantis Funeral Home, Inc. on Mar. 5, 2026.
Ross Patrick Palermo, Jr., Scranton, died Monday after being stricken ill at home.

Born in Scranton, son of the late Ross P. Sr. and Louise Massetti Palermo, he attended Dunmore public schools, and prior to retirement was employed by the Dunmore DPW for 25 years. He loved baseball, especially the New York Yankees, and in his younger years he excelled at the sport. He also was an excellent tennis player and won numerous tournaments. Ross was a HAM radio operator for decades and was an avid collector of the equipment. A talented musician, he enjoyed playing keyboard and bass guitar, and at one time was in a local band, The North Garfield Express.

His creativity and talent was matched by his big, sensitive heart. Ross was a quiet and deeply faithful man whose home reflected his devotion, with religious statues and holy water always nearby. His presence will be deeply missed by his loving family.

He is survived by his daughter Lisa Bonafede and husband Jeff, and grandson Chris Zawadzki, all of Scranton; as well as his brothers Vincent Palermo of Dunmore, and Richard of Heritage Village, CT.

He was also preceded in death by his son, Paul Palermo in 2005; his sister Elaine Palermo; and sister-in-law Carolyn (Loretti) Palermo.

Family and friends may pay their respects on Monday from 9:30 a.m. to 11 a.m. at the Carlucci-Golden-DeSantis Funeral Home, Inc., 318 E. Drinker St., Dunmore, with a blessing service to begin at 11 a.m.

Interment to follow in Dunmore Cemetery.

Rick Ponas I met Rocky as all his friends knew him in 1971 through a friend of mine who played in North Garfield Express with him. A lot of good memories. I had started playing tennis about a year before him and played many times against him and doubles with him. We were very competitive, that made us much better over time. A good friend that will truly be missed. My condolences to all of his family
