Ross Robert Thompson, age 63 of Garrison, died on August 9, 2025, at his home. Ross was born August 2, 1962, in Crosby, MN, to Robert 'Bob' and Muriel (Rubbelke) Thompson.
In his youth, Ross enjoyed causing mischief as the youngest of the three Thompson siblings. Summers were spent operating the launch for his parent's resort, Bob's Trailer Park. And winters were dedicated to the art of Ice fishing; towing ice houses on and off Lake Mille Lacs and finding the best fishing holes. He graduated from Brainerd Senior High School and went on to attend Anoka Technical Institute for electrical construction. Ross earned his license as a Journeyman Electrician, a career that spanned 38 years before retiring early in 2019. He was a volunteer first responder with the Garrison Fire Department. Ross was an avid outdoorsman; he loved fishing, hunting, and spending the day on the lake. He had an affinity for long rides on the four-wheeler, a competitive game of cribbage, Marlboro cigarettes, and he never let the truth get in the way of a good story.
Ross is survived by daughters, Holly Thompson of Minneapolis and Kelsey Thompson of Fairbanks, AK; former spouse and mother to Holly and Kelsey, Lisa Lauer (Svoboda) of Blaine; Sisters, Catherine 'Cathy' Thompson (Larry Hovgaard) of Garrison and Lorri Svoboda of Brainerd; and many nieces and nephews.
Preceding Ross in death are his mother Muriel Thompson, father Robert Thompson, and brother-in-law Dennis Svoboda.
A Memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, October 4, 2025, at Light of the Cross Lutheran Church in Garrison. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the church, with a reception to follow. Arrangements are with Koop Funeral Home in Crosby.
*In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the Garrison Fire Relief Association (P.O. Box 239, Garrison, MN 56450) or planting a tree in his memory.
