Rouletta Verbrugge

Rouletta Verbrugge, age 88, passed away Tuesday, July 22, 2025 at the Kanawha Community Home.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 on Saturday, July 26, 2025, at the Wright Christian Reformed Church, 1730 East 130th St., Kanawha, with Pastor Kevin Boss officiating.
Visitation will be on Friday, July 25, 2025, from 5:00 – 7:00 at Ewing Funeral Home, 118 East Second St., Kanawha. There will be no visitation prior to services on Saturday.
Rouletta Jane (Van Pykeren) Verbrugge, the daughter of Frank and Lena (Van Otterloo) Van Pykeren, was born on July 29, 1936, in Hull, Iowa. She attended Hull Christian School before graduating from Western Christian High School in 1954. She then continued her education at Northwestern College, obtaining her teaching degree.
She began her teaching career at Edgerton before she moved to Rock Valley, and completed her teaching career at the Kanawha Christian School. She was united in marriage to Nick Verbrugge on June 27, 1958, at the Hull Christian Reformed Church. The couple lived in El Paso, Texas, while Nick was in the service. Later, they moved to a farm outside of Kanawha, where they raised their six children.
Rouletta loved sewing and had a small business, Country Stitches. She altered clothing and loved making quilts. She also drove school bus for West Hancock for over a decade. In her free time, Rouletta loved to travel. Nick and Rouletta traveled to all 50 states and even a trip to Europe.
She is survived by her husband of 67 years Nick Verbrugge of Kanawha; her six children Paul (Ruth) Verbrugge of Britt, Iowa; Dave (Maria) Verbrugge of Lehigh Acres, Florida; Carolyn (Tom) Winegar of Prairie City, Iowa; Joyce (Joe) Morris of Traer, Iowa; Tom Verbrugge of Castle Rock, Colorado; and Mark (Emily) Verbrugge of Waukee, Iowa; 12 grandchildren; nine great grandchildren; four step-grandchildren and 12 step great-grandchildren; one brother Gerrit (Dorothy) Van Pykeren; brothers and sisters-in-law Marge Roskamp, Don (Dee) Verbrugge, Kristin (Kermit) Redenius, Ruth (Bob) Eekhoff, and Lois (Roger) Lamfers; along with many nieces, nephews, and extended family.
Rouletta was preceded in death by her parents, parents-in-law Heis and Tillie Verbrugge, sister-in-law Rose Redenius, and brother-in-law Bernard Roskamp.
