In Loving Memory:
Roy F. Burke Sr., our Grandpa
“But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control” (Gal. 5:22-23). When I think of a person in my life who exemplifies the fruit of the Spirit, I think of my Grandpa. Every one of those words describe him. In all my life, I never heard him speak harshly to anyone. Not to my Grandma, not to his family, not to anyone. Grandpa was tender, calm, and steadfast. He was funny, joyful, and caring. He was tough, smart, and could fix anything in the world with a motor.
Above all those things, Grandpa loved the Lord Jesus. He loved his family with a sacrificial and unconditional love. It’s a special thing to have generations of men who pass down their example of what a Godly man should be. I thank God for Grandpa’s example to my dad, to my brothers and I, and to my sons and nephews. He was a man devoted to his wife, and loved her the way Christ loves the Church.
Our family grieves for him, but “not as those who have no hope”. We celebrate Grandpa’s 91 years of life, and rejoice that he is with his Savior.
The family would like to express their appreciate for the care shown to Roy by the Ogeechee Area Hospice Team, Memorial Baptist Church and Green Hill Baptist Church.
