Roy Freeman Burkett, Sr., 90, of Homerville passed away Tuesday evening, April 29, 2025, at the Appling Nursing and Rehabilitation Pavilion in Baxley, GA after an extended illness. He was born in Telfair County, GA to the late Wilson Franklin and Maude Ethel Selph Burkett. Mr. Burkett lived in Homerville most of his life and retired from B-Way after 32 years of service and after retirement worked at Lee Container for six years. He was a member of Shiloh Church and a Veteran of the Georgia Army National Guard during the Vietnam War.

Along with his parents he was preceded in death by one son, Gregory Alan Burkett; one grandson, Cole Burkett; four sisters, Naomi Burkhalter, Doris Covington, Frances Wilson, and JoAnn Dial; one brother, Lee Roy Covington.

Survivors include his wife Sarah Faye Holmes Burkett of Baxley; two sons and daughters-in-law, Roy Freeman “Buster” (Gredel) Burkett, Jr. of Surrency, GA, and Tony Dwayne Burkett (Pam) of Homerville; eight grandchildren, Roy Burkett, III, Emily Featherstone, Erik Burkett, Macy Burkett, Hannah Gilliam, Rebecca Burkett, Jacob Burkett, and Laney Buzbee; fourteen great-grandchildren; one sister, Betty June Cason of Homerville; several nieces, nephews, and other relatives.

A funeral service will be held Friday morning, May 2, 2025, at 11 am at Shiloh Church. Burial will follow in Shiloh Cemetery.

The family will receive friends Friday morning beginning at 10 am at Shiloh Church.
