Roy Burrus Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Beach River Funeral Home on Nov. 20, 2025.
"It must have been cold there in my shadow to never have sunlight on your face. You were content to let me shine, that's your way - you always walked a step behind. So, I was the one with all the glory, while you were the one with all the strength. A beautiful face without a name for so long, a beautiful smile to hide the pain. Did you ever know that you're my hero? And everything I would like to be, I can fly higher than an eagle; for you are the wind beneath my wings."

Roy Lee Burrus entered eternal rest on Tuesday, November 18, 2025 at Sentara Albemarle Medical Center in Elizabeth City, North Carolina. He was the son of the late Joseph Lee Burrus and the late Goldie Ferebee Burrus.

Celebration of Life Service will be Saturday, November 22, 2025, 12:00 noon at Beach Funeral Home Chapel in Elizabeth City, North Carolina with Pastor Stanford Jones, Officiating and Pastor Evaninia (Ann) H. Jones, Eulogist. Interment will follow in the Westlawn Cemetery in Elizabeth City, North Carolina. A viewing/visitation will be Friday from 5 – 7 p.m. at the funeral home.

Roy leaves to cherish his memory one older brother, Eugene Ferebee(Delora); three sisters, Priscilla Burrus-Penny, Paula M. Burrus-Footmon, aka Polu (Darryl) and Zena D. Burrus; one daughter, Angela; and countless cousins, friends, ex-co-workers and special friend Angela Turner.
