Roy Lee Grant, 79, of McDowell, passed away Thursday, November 10, 2022 at his home.
He was born March 30, 1943, a son of the late Charles Roy and Janet Ruth (Lockridge) Grant.
On September 26, 1964 he married Mary Mauzy, who preceded him in death on March 4, 2019.
A self-employed and accomplished mason, Roy was known for his strong work ethic and constant attention to detail. Additionally, he was a caring and gentle man who loved God, his wife, his family, his mountain, his F350 and his community. Above all, he will be remembered for being empathetic, thankful and ever gracious.
He is survived by two daughters, Elizabeth “Liz” Hylton and husband, Duane of McDowell and Tina Grant of Monterey; son, R. Lee Grant and wife, Demi of Richmond; two brothers, Charles William “Billy” Grant of McDowell and Gene Grant and wife, Shirley of Swoope; sister, Janet Hevener and husband, Don of McDowell; eight grandchildren, Abby Hylton, Grace Hoilman and husband, Seth, Addie Baugher, Maggie Baugher, Noah Grant, Nic Grant, Greyson Grant and Gigi Grant; as well as great-grandson, Judah Hoilman.
The family will receive friends during a time of visitation and celebration of Roy’s life, 2-4 p.m. on Sunday, November 13, 2022 at Obaugh Funeral Home. A private memorial service will be held at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Highland County Volunteer Rescue Squad, PO Box 268, Monterey, Va. 24465.
