Roy Harmon Obituary

Mr. Roy Edward Harmon, 86, husband, daddy and pop, went to be with his Heavenly Father Tuesday April 20, 2010 at Valdese General Hospital after a brief illness.
Mr. Harmon was born February 4, 1924 in Morristown TN., to the late William Harrison and Ethel Killian Harmon. Roy was a faithful member of Mount Calvary Baptist Church, Valdese, having served as a deacon, on the food ministry, the building and grounds committee and the bus committee. He proudly served his country during WW II in the 737 Tank Battalion for General George Patton's 3rd Army, fighting in the European theaters' five major battles. He attended his annual army reunion for 61 of the 62 years it has been established. Roy retired from Drexel Heritage Furniture Co. after more than 30 years of service.
Surviving are his wife of 66 years, Valeria Ogle Harmon of the home, a daughter, Marsha Roberts and husband Billy of Greensboro, NC. Also surviving are his beloved grandchildren, Brandon Roberts and Nicole Roberts both of Greensboro and a number of nieces and nephews.
Funeral Services for Roy E. Harmon will be held at 3:00 P.M. Friday April 23, 2010 at Mount Calvary Baptist Church, with Rev. Glenn Kerstetter officiating. Interment will follow with military honors by American Legion Post 234 in the Burke Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00 P.M. Thursday at Heritage Funeral Service, Valdese.
