So sad to hear of Roy´s passing four years ago... I had looked up Hughes design because I was talking to somebody in the Boston area about great design firms... I worked with Roy in Albany New York at Kirkman 3hree... It was my first job in advertising after I got out of art school... Roy was a great mentor and a great designer... it was always such a pleasure working with him... I wish I had been in touch with him prior to his passing...

Roy gave me my first job in graphic design. I learned a lot from him and savored the opportunity to be part of a first class team. I tell lots of stories about my brief time working with Roy but one is my favorite. I won't tell the entire joke he told us but it must have been one of his favorites. The punch line is "and tonight's the night!" Some of you may know this joke. He was a funny guy. Bon voyage Roy!

Sincere condolences for your great loss. May the God who "binds up the brokenhearted" and "comforts all who mourn," sustain your family during this challenging time. Isaiah 61: 1, 2.

So very sorry to receive the call from Carol about Roy's passing. I had just sent him an e-mail the day prior and wondered why I hadn't received a response because he always got back to me within 24 hours. Roy was a good friend and neighbor for over 25 years and I will miss him and our weekly chats and e-mails about cars and model trains. Rest in peace my friend. Kurt & Roberta

Hearing about Roy's passing brought back a flood of good memories. He was by the far the best person I ever worked for. I learned so much from him about design and about running a business, often after work over a cup of Amaretto. He gave me many opportunities to grow as a designer and I am grateful to have known him.

One interesting story story that Roy once told was about a bird his family rescued and nursed back to health. The bird used to sleep on his pillow at night. Fast forward to a snowy night sometime around 1998 and my husband was flying back from a birding trip in Texas. Unbeknownst to him he was sitting next to Roy's sister on the plane. The only way they figured it out was because Roy's sister told my husband the story about the rescued bird and he instantly realized who she was from that. I'll never forget seeing my husband get off the plane with a woman who he introduced as Roy's sister. It was a fun moment.

My husband, John and I were so sad and sorry to learn that Roy had died. As a freelance copywriter, I worked with Roy on projects he was art directing over many years. He was, indeed, a talented graphic designer. He was a very talented fine artist as well. I vividly remember the spectacular paintings--works in progress--in his home studio. Roy was a kind and good person. He was part of a network that was built decades ago, among a group of friends and colleagues who worked together in the various creative departments of Polaroid Corporation "back in the day." It's not that we stay in touch all that often. But when we lose someone from that group, we all feel it deeply. I'm happy to have the opportunity to make a donation to the Buddy Dog Humane Society in memory of Roy. I remember how much he loved his dogs, how he kept their remains and collars handsomely displayed. He told me he planned to take his dogs with him "when I go." I like to think that somehow, somewhere, they are reunited!
