Roy Martin Obituary

Roy T. Martin, 80, of Hilliards, entered into eternal rest on Wednesday, Jan. 28, 2026, at UPMC Montefiore, in Pittsburgh.
He was born on March 19, 1945, in Ridgeway, Va., to the late Hazel Martin Turner and the late Pete G. King.
He graduated from George Washington Carver High School in Martinsville, Va., in 1963. Upon graduating high school, he enlisted in the U.S. Air Force and was stationed at Pope Air Force Base in Fayetteville, N.C., and was honorably discharged in 1967. He was a trained upholsterer, starting his career at American of Martinsville Furniture in Martinsville, Va. After 25 years, he retired from Slippery Rock University of Pennsylvania as an upholstery foreman in March 2002. He also owned and operated his own upholstery business for over 30 years.
He was a believer in Jesus Christ, receiving Christ as his personal Lord and Savior in September 1999. He was a member of Mount Olive Baptist Church in Grove City, serving as a trustee. He enjoyed upholstery, fishing, hunting, carpentry, the outdoors, studying the Bible and sharing the gospel of Jesus Christ. He was an avid sports fan. His favorite teams were the Pittsburgh Steelers and the Pittsburgh Pirates. He was a cable news junkie, staying in tune with politics and the world around him.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his daughter, Karen Renee Harris; and one brother, Nathaniel Hairston.
He is survived by his wife of 42 years, Beverly D. Martin, whom he married July 23, 1983; three children, daughters, Cathy M. Martin, of Martinsville, Va., and Veronica Martin, of Butler, and a son, the Rev. William T. Martin, of Butler; granddaughters, Nijeria Jones, of Martinsville, Va., Sheri Millner, of Eden, N.C., and Alanna Hairston, of Radford, Va; three great-grandchildren, Khloe, Kobe and Kace Martin, of Eden, N.C.; two sisters, Katy M. To Roy´s Family
I worked at SRU and knew Roy very well. We also live in Hilliards and shared many stories of living in the country. After retiring from SRU he worked at Trader Horn for a bit and was extremely helpful anytime we needed him. Roy was such a kind, thoughtful, pleasant gentleman. He was a terrific upholsterer and a very respected, Christian man. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family during this very difficult time. We are very sorry for your loss.
