Oakwood - Roy Mason, Jr., age 83, of Oakwood, Ohio, passed away at his home surrounded by his family on Wednesday, November 26, 2025.
He was born in Pineville, KY on September 19, 1942, to his late parents, Roy and Anna (Brummett) Mason, Sr. On July 31, 1964, he married Janice M. Winegardner who preceded him in death in 2017. On July 2, 2021, he married Lynette Blankenship who survives.
Roy proudly served his country in the United States Army. He retired in 2004, after 38 years of service as a machine operator at Johns Manville,
Defiance, Ohio. Roy was a member of the Church of the Brethren,
Defiance, Ohio, Loyal Order of the Moose, #2094,
Defiance, Ohio, and the Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie 372,
Defiance, Ohio. He enjoyed playing golf, bowling, hunting, fishing, and traveling.
Roy is also survived by his children: Julie (Alan) McGough, Oakwood, Ohio; Scott (Penny) Mason, Napoleon, Ohio; Roy (Shannon) Mason III, Fort Wayne, Indiana; step children: Richele (Benjamin) Hitt MacDowell, Columbus, Ohio; Charles Hitt, Oakwood, Ohio; grandchildren: Eric Mason, Brett Mason, Brandon (Chyanne) McGough, Kaytie (Brice) Mason, Kendra (Coleman) Mason, Alisha (Adam) Wood, Derek (Taylor) Mason, Reagan Hitt, Caelan MacDowell, Brody (Morgan) Hitt, Cameron (Getty) Hitt, Shelby Hitt, Jeremy Tressler, Mackenzie (Alex); great grandchildren: Kayden Kepler, Warren Wood, Harrison Wood, Presley Wood, Bentley Wood, Cheyenne Myers, Jackson McGough, Nova McGough, Trevor Tressler, Shelby Tressler, Dalton Tressler, Konnor Farr, Cooper Farr, Jordon Kent, Josiah Mason, 10 additional great grandchildren; siblings: Lawrence (Carlene) Mason, Ronnie (Faye) Mason, Jewel Dean Baker, Mary Ann (Randy) Winegardner.
He is also preceded in death by siblings: J.D. Mason, Clarence Mason, Levi Mason,and Ethel Wimer.
Funeral service will be at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, December 3, 2025, at Den Herder Funeral Home,
Paulding, Ohio. Burial will take place in Sherman Cemetery, Brown Township where military rites will be accorded by the Paulding V.F.W. Post #587 Honor Guard.
Visitation will be from 2-8 p.m. on Tuesday, December 2, 2025, at Den Herder Funeral Home,
Paulding, OH. There will also be visitation from 9-11 a.m. at the funeral home on Wednesday.
Memorial contributions may be made in Roy's memory to the
American Cancer Society or to the
American Heart Association.
