Roy Oliver Miller Jr., a beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, "in -law/out-law", and friend, passed away on Sunday, November 9, 2025, in South Bend, IN. He was born on November 25, 1952, in Detroit, MI to the late Roy O. Miller Sr. and Josephine (Kolinski) Miller.
On June 21, 1974, Roy married the love of his life, Laurie (Houdek) Miller. Together, they raised four wonderful children, Benjamin (Kristen) Miller of Granger, Kimberly (Max) Lewis of Zionsville, Scott (Frannie) Miller of Tucson, AZ, and Robyn Miller (Matt Gwaltney) of Bloomington. He later was blessed with the role of a doting grandfather to Ian, Cora, and Finnegan Lewis; Lucia, Nova, and Colette Gwaltney, and Rylen Miller.
Roy is survived by his sisters Carol Holt, Patricia (Kevin) Hannigan, and Anne Langdon; in-laws Larry (Trish) Houdek, Randy (Donna) Houdek, Sandy Houdek, Tom Houdek, Donna (John) Cullen, Rick (Nancy) Houdek, Dan (Andrea) Houdek, and Jodi Nieuwstadt; along with many loving nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by sisters Joan (Ron) Kroll, Michelle (Tom) Mikula, Darlene Houdek, and Janice (Steve) Ronan. Roy loved animals – but none more than his beloved dog, Jenny, a loyal companion through his later years.
Roy was a devout Catholic who lived by the principles of his faith. He generously gave his time and skills in service, often volunteering at St. Vincent de Paul. He was always noticing the needs of others and provided for them.
Professionally, Roy loved and spent his entire career in the fire protection industry, working his last 29 years as a salesman for VFP Fire Systems.
Roy excelled in woodworking and could fix or break anything. He loved history and was the family genealogist. His cherished his time with family, and would especially look forward to the annual Guys Fishing Weekend, Kugelis Day with his sisters, and family vacations up at the lake.
Visitation will be held 4 pm – 7 pm with a rosary being prayed at 4 pm on Friday, November 14, 2025 at Palmer Funeral Home ~ Hickey Chapel, 17131 Cleveland Road, South Bend, IN 46635.
