Roy Rogers Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Johnson Funeral Home - EFFINGHAM on Feb. 8, 2026.
Roy Dean Rogers, Sr., 77, of Effingham, IL passed away peacefully on Saturday, February 7, 2026, at home with his devoted wife, Dana, and his best friend, Lucy, by his side.

Funeral services will be at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, February 11, 2026 at Johnson Funeral Home in Effingham, IL. Roy will be laid to rest in Arborcrest Memorial Park in Effingham, next to his grandson, Roy, III. The family will welcome visitors from 12:00 p.m. until the time of service at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to Effingham County Humane Society.

Roy was born on March 31, 1948, in Effingham, IL the fourth child of Burgess "Buge" and Hester (Wagoner) Rogers. He married the love of his life, Dana Scholes, on April 21, 2003. Roy worked for Yellow Freight and Bulkmatic.

Roy was honest and hardworking, taking the opportunity to teach others along the way. He was someone who would always make you smile with his goofy faces, silly jokes or by sharing a good story. Time spent with him was full of laughter and lighthearted moments. Roy found joy in showing others the beautiful flower and vegetable gardens that Dana had created in their backyard.

Remembering Roy is to embrace the joy he brought into our lives. Rather than focusing on sadness when we think of him, we recall the sound of his laughter and the joyful moments we shared with him. Instead of mourning his absence, we gather to celebrate a legacy of playfulness, warmth, and smiles.

Roy is survived by his wife, Dana Rogers; children, Roy II (Teresa) Rogers, Chris (Rebekah) Rogers, Curt (Marla Kruger) Rogers, Tiffiny (Patrick) Wrigley and Missy Ogle; Bonus children, Jeff Christianson, Terry (Ginger) Christianson and Blake (Sara Stellfox) Christianson; 19 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren.

Roy is preceded in death by his parents; siblings, Delores "Dee" Adams, Dale Rogers and Darrell "Duke" Rogers; and grandson, Roy Dean Rogers, III
