Roy R. Smith, age 78, of Hot Springs, passed away on Tuesday, February 21, 2023.

 

He was born on April 15, 1944, in Morristown, Tennessee, the son of Willard B. Smith and Minnie Bell Estes Smith.  On November 2, 1963, he married the love of his life, Sharon Collins.  He was preceded in death by his parents; one son, Tim Smith; and one grandson, Cameron Smith.

 

Roy was a veteran who was honorably discharged from the United States Army and the United States Navy.  In his working career he was in law enforcement with the Carlisle Police Department and the Newport Police Department, a captain in the Garland County, Arkansas Sheriff’s Department and a civilian employee for the Hot Springs Police Department.  He took his law enforcement training at the FBI Academy in Quantico, Virginia, Northwest University in Evanston, Illinois and K9 training in Bakersfield, California.

 

He was a Christian and a member of Lake Hills Free Will Baptist Church.  He was an avid fisherman and a long-standing member of the Ozark Bass Club.  He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and friend who will be greatly missed by all that knew and loved him.

 

Roy is survived by his loving wife of 59 years, Sharon Smith of Hot Springs; one daughter, Tammy Smith of Hot Springs; five grandchildren, Wes Smith (Tayler), Sydni Smith (Doug), Nathyn Smith (Wesley), Lauren Whitney (Zech) and Lexi Smith (Bre); one great-granddaughter, Paisley Smith; special family friend, Bill Terry; extended family members and a host of wonderful friends.

 

Funeral services will be 10:00AM, Friday, February 24, 2023, in the Lake Hills Free Will Baptist Church with David Taylor and Jonathan McEntire officiating. 

 

Interment will be in the Memorial Gardens Cemetery.

 

Visitation will be 5:00PM-7:00PM, Thursday, February 23, 2023, in the Smith Family Funeral Home, Hot Springs.

 

Pallbearers are Wes Smith, Rod Woodard, Jim Smoke, Robert Daniels, Shawn Flaherty and Gary Dodd.
