Royce Jordan Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Mar. 22, 2012.
On March 22, 2012, the extraordinary life of Royce "Dixon" Jordan Jr. came to a sudden end. He was really beyond description. He was generous, courageous, brave, loving without condition, noble, loyal, larger than life. He occupied a room with such personality and uniqueness. His brilliance will live on forever in all the things he created and the people he touched, there are so many. In 2009, he uprooted everything he knew in Georgia and moved to Washington, DC to begin a new life. From that point on, Dixon's life was filled with taking care of his family, traveling, enjoying the sites of his new hometown and making real plans for his future. His work here didn't seem finished but God had His perfect plan and took him away. Dixon is perfectly at peace now. It is a very comforting thought. Some of his dreams included returning to Hawaii where he had spent much time in his early career, traveling to Europe to see the Tour de France, attending a Georgia football game again, riding a bike, going to the beach, and maybe even skiing one day. In the last three years, he traveled to Colorado, Ohio, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, New Jersey, among others, and also went on a wellness cruise to the Caribbean. Dixon will be missed for so many reasons, some of them just as small as hearing his booming voice with the southern twang or plucking away on the banjo. He is survived by his parents, Royce and Jerrie Jordan, his sister and brother-in-law, Dr. Janice and Bobby Smith, his brother and his girlfriend, Jon Jordan and Jennifer Holbrook. He is also survived by Barbara Peck, Michelle Peverley, Andrew Bollmer, Ashley Mayes, Hayden Bollmer, Sheila Barton, Viviana Casallas and her infant son, Ethan, his constant companions and DC family. He is also survived by many aunts, uncles, cousins, friends and colleagues. Services will be in DC on Monday April 2, 2012 at 6pm gathering at the Roosevelt Island Bridge for a service and prayer walk to follow. Later in Georgia on April 12, the celebration will continue at First Baptist Church of Duluth with visitation from 2-4pm and services at 4. In lieu of flowers, please make contributions to the "The Royce Dixon Jordan Jr. Scholarship Fund", 3204 Pauline Drive, Chevy Chase, MD 20815. Your contribution is fully tax deductible and will go to the deserving student who exhibits thinking outside the box and true compassion for others. It will embody everything that Dixon embraced.
