Royce G (Hume) Roland, 75, of Minden, passed away on Friday, January 19, 2024 at his home. Celebration of life services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, January 29, 2024 at Bethany Lutheran Church in Minden with Rev. Donald Hunzeker and PMA Julie Schmidt officiating. Inurnment will be held following the service at the Minden Cemetery. In honor of Royce's patriotism, the family requests that everyone in attendance wear patriotic attire. Memorials are kindly suggested to the
Shriners Children's Hospital, Marine Corps League, or Tunnel to Towers. Arrangements are under the care of Craig Funeral Home in Minden.
Royce G (Hume) Roland was born on June 7, 1948 in Ponca City, OK to Edwin D. Hume and Inez I. Roland. He grew up in Ponca City, OK, and also spent time in Kansas and Arizona as a child before the family settled in
Colorado Springs, CO. He graduated from Harrison High School, in Colorado Springs. After graduation, his first marriage was to Sandra King, where a daughter (Melissa Alaine) was born. He later met Kim Dorman and they married on January 10, 1976. To this union, a daughter (Emily JoAnna) was born. They lived in Colorado Springs, CO where he spent 23 years as a police officer with the Colorado Springs Police Department. During which time, he also obtained a barber's license and offered barbering services for the home bound. After he retired from the police department, he became the Regional Park Ranger for Palmer Park with the City of Colorado Springs for ten years. After retiring from the city, he became a CNA at a care facility; he also worked at Platte Floral and Visiting Angels. After spending their lives in the city, Royce and Kim moved to
Minden, NE, in June of 2019.
Royce was a proud member of the El Paso Lodge #13, Al Kaly Shriners, The Scottish Rite of Freemasonry, Marine Corp League – Broomfield Division, and the Minden Lions Club. Royce was also an active member of Bethany Lutheran Church in Minden.
Royce enjoyed bowling, golfing (especially with his granddaughter, Savannah), he was always mowing his lawn or the church, and he enjoyed spending time with his family and friends.
Those left to cherish his memory include his wife, Kim Roland of
Minden, NE; daughters, Melissa Held (Nate) of
Loxahatchee, FL, and Emily Laydon (Joseph) of
Minden, NE; grandchildren, Katherine Nelson, Aislynn Kauffman, Rylan Kauffman, Hayden Kauffman, Sharon Gamblin, Jacob Gamblin, and Savannah Roland; great-granddaughter, Iris Mitchell; along with blended grandchildren, Alec Held, Kaitlyn Held, Griffin Held, Joey Laydon, and Chandler Laydon; blended great grandchildren, Bailey Held, Joey Held, and Parker Laydon; sister, Kaye Cunningham of Ponca City, OK; along with many nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his sister Sharon Gillette and many aunts, uncles, and cousins.
