Royce David Smart, 75, of Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio passed away unexpectedly Friday, December 19, 2025, leaving his family, friends and co-workers in deep shock and sorrow.

Born September 9, 1950 in Akron, Ohio to loving parents Ralph Smart Sr and Geraldine Smart, Royce brought smiles and warmth to every room he entered.

Royce was known for his dedication to his work, his unwavering strength, and his love for his family. He lived a life full of passion for working hard, hunting of any kind, fishing of all sorts and spending time with his loved ones. He dedicated over 31 years to the Army National Guard, retiring in 2010. He was a loving father and grandfather and spent the last 10 years of his life deeply enjoying his work at Marco Contractors Inc, where he felt he'd found a second family. He will be forever remembered for his incredible intelligence, his loyalty, his love for his family and friends, his attention to detail and his ability to persevere.

Royce was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Ralph Jr.; sister, Jeanne Johnson; and brothers-in-law, Stephen Otto & Bert Hiebert.

He is survived by his wife of 24 years, Cynthia (Johnston) Smart; his loving daughters, Kim (John) Albertson and Jill Sheppard (Christopher Fouser); step-children. Lesa (Cory) Wyrick and Erik Johnston; grandchildren, Terry Johnston, Tritt Copenhaver, Trinity Copenhaver, Jaxon Sheppard, Mallory Sheppard, Mazzy Wyrick and Zane Wyrick; siblings, Geraldine Ann Otto, Georgeann Hiebert, Ron (Donna) Smart, and Tim (Margaret) Smart; sister-in law, JudyKay Smart; many nieces and nephews; his life-long friend Denny Ickes; and his very last German shorthaired pointer, Blysse, who was always at his side.

Calling hours will be held on Monday, December 29, 2025 from 9 – 9:30 a.m. at the Eckard Baldwin Funeral Home, 760 E. Market St., Akron, OH 44305, with a time of sharing starting at 9:30 a.m. Military honors and burial will be held at Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery, 10175 Rawiga Rd., Seville, OH 44273 immediately following the time of sharing.
