Royce McKinley Strickland Jr.

Paradise Valley, AZ and Bend, OR Royce “Roy” McKinley Strickland, Jr., former resident of Paradise Valley, AZ, passed away Monday, 16 February 2015, at Bend Villa Retirement and Assisted Care in Bend, OR. Son of Anna Burke and Royce McKinley Strickland, Sr., Roy was born 28 April 1928 in New Haven, CT. He was predeceased by his parents, wife Eleanor Cargill Strickland, son Royce M. Strickland, III and daughter-in-law Lorrie Schoen Strickland. He is survived by son John Strickland, daughter Annie M. Sarber, grandchildren Johnny Strickland, Danny Strickland, Samantha Sarber & husband Reed Whipple, Caty Sarber, Lizzie Sarber, brother-in-law John Boyce Cargill and family, sisters-in-law Anne and Paula Cargill, his beloved dog Misty and his friend Sharon Kay Meegan and her family. Roy was in Occupied Japan in 1945-48 in US Army infantry division. At Norwich University, he was commissioned at graduation and served as a First Lieutenant in US Army tank division and as a paratrooper. His career was as an executive and international consultant in aerospace engineering and design with patents related to vehicle airbags, pilot ejection seats, and the aerodynamic design of aircraft and spacecraft nose cones. A private service will be held for Roy. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be sent to Partners in Care Hospice, 2075 NE Wyatt Court, Bend OR 97701.
