Ruben S. Sturkie

Ruben S. Sturkie, a devoted family man, was born on January 5, 1963, to his loving parents, Reuben Sturkie and Mary Coker Sturkie. He confessed Christ as his Lord and Savior at an early age and united with Ohatchee First Baptist Church. He enjoyed worshiping with New Prospect Baptist Church.
Ruben received his education in the Calhoun County School System where he graduated from Ohatchee High School. After high school, Ruben embarked on a successful career as a truck driver and also helped with his father's paving business.
Along life's journey, Ruben met and married the love of his life, Gaynelle Sturkie. Together they created a loving and nurturing home for their children and grandchildren. Ruben lived a life dedicated to his family, especially his children and grandchildren, who were the light of his life and his greatest joy. He enjoyed every moment supporting them while playing sports and participating in extracurricular activities. Ruben enjoyed the simple pleasures of life, especially watching movies on Netflix.
On February 18, 2025, Ruben Sturkie, answered the Master's call and peacefully transitioned from this earthly walk of life to his eternal resting place. He was preceded in death by his parents, Reuben and Mary Sturkie, son, Frankie Williams, sister, Rose Marie Sturkie, and grandparents, Ford and Eva Sturkie.
Ruben's loving memories will always remain in the hearts of his loving wife, Gaynelle Sturkie; sons, Adrian (Nikia) Sturkie, and Justin (Latoya) Sturkie; daughters, Natasha (TJ) Boges, Latasha (Nick) Dodson, and Shundra Nicole Williams; grandchildren, Jalan, Baylee, Kaylee, Aspyn, Cree, Mahiya, Jahiya, Quanice, Tyrik, Alex, Naudia, and Kaiden; brother, Elliot (Kim) Sturkie; sisters, Brenda (Darryl) Munford, Sharon Montgomery, Genella Sturkie, Veronica (Keith) Jones, and Betty Sturkie; special sisters-in-law, Sandra and Vivian; special friends, Vic and Darryl; and a host of nieces, nephews, other family members and friends.
As we come together to celebrate Ruben's life, let us remember the love he so generously shared. He may be gone, but he will forever hold a special place in our hearts.
