Ruby Denise Atkinson

Ruby Denise Atkinson passed away surrounded by loved ones on June 16, 2025 in West Valley City, Utah. She was born on November 11, 1938 in Salt Lake City, Utah to John Marves Waters and Ruby Williams Waters. She married her sweetheart Donald J. Atkinson in 1992 whom she went on many fun adventures with.

Denise’s joys in life were crocheting, thrifting, dancing and fishing. She could always be found sitting on her porch swing chatting with loved ones for hours. She enjoyed long car rides exploring the countryside or the SLC avenues. She collected baby dolls from all over and was very proud of her collection. She loved gardening and planted beautiful wild flowers and red roses all over her yard when she was younger. But her very favorite pastime was being with her grandchildren. She always had one grandchild or more with her at any given time. She was inseparable from her grandchildren, they were the loves of her life.

Denise is survived by her sons, William Kevin Thompson and Ronald Lee Thompson; her sister Judy Balfour, three generations of grandchildren, nieces and nephews all of whom love her dearly.

She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Ruby Waters, her youngest son Jeffrey Lynn Thompson, her husband Donald Atkinson and her siblings Jim Sr., Jack, Richard, DelRae, and Janice.

Funeral services will be held Monday, June 23, 2025 at 11:00 a.m. with a viewing from 9:00 to 10:30 am at Memorial Redwood Mortuary, 6500 South Redwood Road, West Jordan, Utah 84123.
