Ruby Grace Barlow

Ruby Grace High Barlow, age 73, of Vada, GA, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Tuesday, September 23, 2025, after a long illness.

Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m. Friday, September 26 at Parker-Bramlett Funeral Home with private interment. Brother Neil Hosey will officiate.

Ruby was born November 1, 1951 in Mitchell County. She was the youngest of three children and lived in the Camilla area her whole life. She was a graduate of Mitchell County High School in 1969 and, later in life, she attended Bainbridge College and received her Associates Degree. She was a member of Delwood Baptist Church in Camilla, where she enjoyed serving in the kitchen and was a member of the Sr. Adult Ladies Sunday School Class.

Ruby retired in the fall of 2015 after a long career in the nursing department as a Program Assistant at Bainbridge State College. At the April 2016 pinning ceremony, the nursing graduates, faculty and staff recognized Ruby as she was considered extremely influential in the success of the Associate of Science in Nursing (ADN) program during her tenure at Bainbridge State College. In recent years, she worked for Camilla Insurance and Investments part-time and also was an Inspector with County Line Peanuts. In her earlier years, she worked at Rackley Sewing and at Thomas & Betts.

Ruby was a devoted and loving wife, aunt, daughter, sister, Ruru, and friend to all who knew her. Although she never had children of her own, she loved and spoiled her many fur babies through the years. She was a cat lover and was known to care for all strays that came to her yard. She loved Jesus, the outdoors, fresh peaches, her church family, and spending time with her loved ones. She always put others' needs ahead of her own and would sacrifice to help anyone who needed help.

Ruby is preceded in death by her parents, Evelyn June Plyler High and Leo Alton High, her sister, Joanna Allen, and her longtime partner, James Larry Wood, Sr. Left to cherish her memory is her older brother, Thomas Alton "Buddy" High and a host of nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, cousins, and a multitude of friends.

Visitation will be held after services, Friday, at Parker-Bramlett Funeral Home.

Family and friends may make memorial contributions to ABAC Bainbridge School of Nursing, PO Box 990, Bainbridge, GA 39818 in Ruby's memory and designate for nursing student scholarships.
