Abbeville- A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 1:00 PM, Wednesday, December 4, 2024 at St. Mary Magdalen Catholic Church honoring the life of Ruby Mae Bertrand, 93, who passed away on November 30, 2024 at her residence.
A visitation will take place at Vincent Funeral Home of Abbeville on Tuesday, December 03, 2024 from 5:00 PM to 9:00 PM with a rosary prayed at 7:00 PM and will continue on Wednesday, December 04, 2024 from 9:00 AM to 12:45 PM when the procession will depart for church.
Father Don Bernard will officiate at the funeral mass. Burial will follow at St. Paul Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Loree Bertrand, Jr., Dustin Bertrand, Shay Laporte, Jared Bertrand, Tamara Bertrand, and Braxton Cessac.
A native of Abbeville, Ruby grew up with her 3 siblings on a small Farm. One of her fondest memories of her childhood, was when her father would take the family eat ice cream. She carried her love for family and ice cream throughout her life.
Ruby began her career at Bank of Abbeville, followed by a 30-year stint at Gulf Coast Bank as a founding employee. Often referred to as the “mom” of Gulf Coast Bank, Ruby was known amongst those closest to her for her kindness, generosity, and relentless work effort.
When Ruby finally decided to retire at the age of 70. She spent most of her time cooking, spending moments with family, and attending church on Sundays. Ruby was a woman of simplicity, discipline, and routine. If you ever went visit, you could be sure she would have Community coffee, Blue Bell ice cream, word search puzzles and the Abbeville Meridional somewhere nearby.
She believed in Jesus and family, and on November 30th at 5:23 PM, both were present while she took her last breath.
She is survived by her Children, Loree Bertrand, Jr. and wife Myrna of Youngsville, Susan Mott and husband Francis of Erath, and Christine Laporte of Abbeville; six grandchildren, Michelle Mott, Jared Bertrand, Tamara Bertrand, Loren Bertrand, Dustin Bertrand, and Shay Laporte; twelve great grandchildren, and two great-great grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by her father, Theonis Vidallia; mother, Lorena Hargrave Vidallia; grandson, Joey Mott; sisters, Annie Mae Reed and Nedia Guarino; brothers, Noah Vidallia and Edwin Vidallia.
The family would like to extend a special thanks to Ruby's caregivers, Jess Gallier, Sarah Mire, Tonya Broussard, Bobbie Dartez, and Malinda Weaver, for the loving care and support given to Ruby at her time of need.
