Ruby L. Bishop 99 went home to be with the Lord on Monday, October 28,2024, at her residence in Spartanburg, South Carolina. Born on June 07,1925 in Spartanburg, South Carolina, she was a daughter of the late Tillman Hamlet and Lydia Thompson Murph.
Ruby was a graduate of Spartanburg High school. She dedicated more than twenty years to a fulfilling career in retail, with notable tenures at Montgomery Ward and JCPenney’s. Beyond her professional endeavors, Ruby was a pillar of her community, serving with grace as a Past Matron, and District Deputy for The Order of Eastern Star Roebuck Chapter 216, and as a proud member of the Order of the Amaranth, Inc. Rose Court No 13 in Laurens, South Carolina. She also was a lifelong member as well as the oldest member of Cedar Spring Baptist Church.
Ruby’s zest for life was evident in her many hobbies and interests. Ruby was a woman whose heart was as large as her flower garden, she loved to share her fresh flowers with shut ins within her community. Ruby cherished the moments spent traveling, particularly the mountains. She had a remarkable talent for capturing memories through pictures, and her family has countless cherished images that reflect her love for life. Crocheting was another of her passions. But perhaps the sweetest of her hobbies was her tradition of singing "Happy Birthday" to anyone near and dear to her that celebrated a birthday. Ruby’s love extended beyond birthdays, as she was well known for mailing cards to her friends and family, celebrating every possible occasion with thoughtful notes.
Ruby is survived by a daughter; Linda B. Hoover, and a daughter in law; Betty Jo Stokes; two grandchildren; Pamela Hoover and Dr. Preston Bishop (Pamela); great grandchildren Bryson Bishop (Peyton), and Heather Porter; and a sister Elizabeth Gowan.
